My kids are always clamoring for an after school snack as soon as they rush through the door. Most of the time, they’ll grab some fruit or a granola bar or one of the other easy snacks we have on hand. But once in a while, it’s fun to surprise them with a really fun after school snack that is totally unexpected! These Apple Slice Donuts were a huge hit with my whole family.
What’s even more fun is these Apple Slice Donuts are perfect as a April Fools prank! Load your “donut” apple slices into an empty donut box and don’t give away the secret right away, just tell them you bought donuts. See how long it takes the kiddos to figure out the trick! My youngest two were convinced they were donuts, my older two kept asking questions and were confused. They really do look like donuts and are a cinch to make! Apple Slice Donuts
Ingredients:
- 3-4 apples
- 1 (8oz) package cream cheese
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ¾ cup nutella
- Colored sprinkles
You May Also Want:
Directions
Slice apples to about ½ inch thick. Core out the center using an apple corer, knife, or a frosting tip, if you have one.
Combine cream cheese and powdered sugar.
Spread cream cheese mixture on to half the apples and nutella on to the other half.
Sprinkle with colored sprinkles.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Then try your best not to gobble down 2 or 3! They are addicting and oh-so good! The best part is, they are a much healthier substitute for donuts by cutting out the donut bread and all the carbs that go with it. They may not be the healthiest after school snack, but they are a welcome surprise that are better for you than donuts! Enjoy!

This is super genius! You're right , it's not the healthiest, but it's still much healthier than donuts. So cute too!

We have one grandson who cannot eat enough apples. He's a teen now but has loved apples since he was a toddler. On the other hand... our granddaughter will eat applesauce but that's it. but I know your Apple Slice Donut recipe will be an absolute win with our granddaughter. A win win all the way around!
