BUTTERMILK SYRUP

Some may call me a breakfast food fanatic. I enjoy devouring pancakes and waffles any time of the day. In fact, just today, I had pancakes for lunch. However, these pancakes were not just your typical pancakes. These pancakes were chocolate chip pancakes bathed in the world’s best homemade buttermilk syrup recipe.

Friends of the family introduced this recipe into my own family and now we don’t use any other syrup. I promise, once you sample this delicious syrup, you will instantly fall in love. My husband and I often joke that it’s almost like pouring divine caramel all over our breakfast foods. Not only does this recipe only take about 10 minutes to make, but it stores well. I always end up with extra syrup; pouring this extra syrup into a Tupperware, it is easily warmed for future use.

Buttermilk Syrup Recipe for Pancakes:

Ingredients:

1 cube butter

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 T corn syrup

1 cup sugar

1/2 t baking soda

1 t vanilla

Directions to make homemade buttermilk syrup

In a saucepan, combine butter, buttermilk, corn syrup, and vanilla.

Over medium heat, continually stir ingredients until everything has dissolved and syrup is smooth.

Once smooth, turn down the heat and allow the syrup to sit (stirring only occasionally) in order for the syrup to thicken.

Once thickened, add the baking soda for a nice frothy consistency.

Serve warm.
