Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe

We eat tacos regularly in our house as they are quick and easy and they are one of our meals the kids don’t complain about. One night, though, my husband started to make tacos only to realize that our taco seasoning container was completely empty. I heard an audible aaaargh from across the room! He was determined, though, and grabbed his favorite seasonings out and set out to make a homemade taco seasoning.

He tested and tasted as he went along mixing up his ingredients until he felt it was just right. Now, this is all we every use! It’s great with our chicken tacos recipe!

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

You will need 2 tablespoons of each of the following: pepper, salt, paprika, lemon pepper, hot chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder. Also include 1 tablespoon of onion powder and a beef bullion cube. Combine all these spices together in a mortar and pestle if any of your spices need to be ground. Grind and mix your ingredients until well blended.

If you don’t have hot chili powder, you can substitute regular chili powder but you’ll need additional spice which can be added with crushed red pepper.

Add seasoning to your ground beef to taste. We generally use 3 spoonfuls for two pounds of ground hamburger meat. If cooking with chicken, squeeze one lime into your frying pan while mixing in your seasoning blend. The chicken with lime and seasoning combo is our personal favorite for really flavorful and delicious tacos!
