Sprouting Seeds with children

I believe it is good for all of us to know how to grow our food.  Teaching children about sprouting seeds and planting them to grow is a great life lesson.  If you as an adult have never done this, I would highly recommend you give it a try and see how fun and rewarding it can be.  You don’t have to have a great big garden space, you can grow your veggies in a planter.

Choose the seeds you would like to sprout. If you choose vegetables, then you can eat the end result. 🙂

Place as many seeds as you would like to sprout into a bowl or dish.

Cover these seeds with water and let soak for 1 hour.

Remove the seeds from the water.

Place the seeds on a damp paper towel inside an open plastic bag. Don’t seal it, or they might mold. You want to place this in a window where you get sun. Warm and damp like the earth is what we are looking for.

Look inside the paper towel daily to see what the seeds are doing. They haven’t really done anything after only one day. You can see that they are look a little swelled up.

In just a couple days you should have sprouts and then the seeds are ready to plant in dirt and you can watch them grow.

After only 3 days, they are ready to place in the dirt or into the greenhouse box I will be telling you about.

Above all else. Enjoy life and your children!
