3 Tricks to Keep Your Dog Cool this Summer + Doggy Popsicle

Summer is very hot and miserable. I feel so bad for my dog who has to wear a fur coat through it. As I sit here and watch my dog pant trying to cool off, I got to thinking, “what can I do to help her cool off”? I decided to make her a doggie popsicle, because who doesn’t like popsicles in the summer?

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

Keep your dog cool this summer with these 3 easy tips to keep your dog cool and a bonus fun recipe.

3 Tricks to Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer

Puppy Pool – Keep your dog cool with a little kiddie pool. You know the hard plastic ones that you can buy cheap at the store? Fill one up and keep it in the backyard so your dog can lay in it whenever they get too hot.

Use a cooling Mat – Grab her a cooling mat that will start to cool when your dog lays on it. No messy water or ice needed. Just lay it out in a corner in your house and your dog can lay on it to cool down.

Homemade Doggy Popsicle – Popsicles are a great way to cool off during summer. We all like them, so you know your pet will like them too to cool off. The trick is, what to add that will be appetizing to a dog? Here’s what I came up with.

Homemade Doggy Popsicle

Simple and oh so easy summer treats for your pets! Come see what we added to our DIY Doggy Popsicles frozen treat recipe. This popsicle is such a great way to help your dog stay cool this summer!

The first thing I did was find a can of chicken broth. Doesn’t sound like it would be a good popsicle ingredient to me, but hey, I’m not a dog. I mixed the broth with a little bit of water in a plastic bowl.

Next, I added a can of Beneful wet dog food. What could better to add to a doggy popsicle then yummy meaty chunks. Now it’s becoming a healthy and super tasty doggy popsicle. Just stir the wet dog food into the chicken broth. Then I got the bright idea to add some fun surprise snacks. What dog wouldn’t like to find a tasty chewy treat in their doggy popsicle? So I threw a few dog treats and a biscuit in there.

To top it off, I thought it might be fun to throw in a few toys. She could try to chew and get her toys out of her popsicle as she licked at it. Grab a few of your pets favorite rubber toys and add them into your doggy popsicle. Then, into the freezer it went overnight.

The next day it was frozen and ready to go.

At first, my dog Zoey was a little unsure of what the heck I was trying to give her. She is also a rescue dog, so she is a little skittish. She didn’t like me following her around with the camera. It was really funny trying to get a picture of her as she purposefully avoided the camera.

See her glaring at me like “get that camera away from me”! I was even standing far away. But all-in-all, it was a success, she thought it was great. The Beneful wet dog food and the snacks made a fun addition.

A Mom’s Take has recently joined in Beneful’s Friends with Beneful Campaign. Beneful is a line of dog food from Purina. Their new recipe of dog food they just launched is focused on meat being the main ingredient.

In conjunction with the partnership, we were invited out to spend the day at the Purina headquarters and hang out with the Beneful team. We learned all about the dog food making process and what goes into making the best possible food for your dog. It’s comforting to know that they have teams of specialists working day in and day out, coming up with great recipes and healthy nutritional food for your pets.

While there, we got to meet with several key people. Their on-staff vet, the nutritionist, the chef and the quality check people. Yes, I said chef. Her food for people was amazing. Our dogs are lucky. They showed us the process they go through everyday checking and comparing every batch at every facility to ensure every bag or can of food goes out looks great and has the best quality possible.

I thought it was really neat that the employees were allowed to bring their pets to work. The whole facility revolved around pets and how to help the owners provide the best care and love for their pets.

We even got to help take part in their dream dog park project. Beneful is donating their time and effort to local dog parks to help fix them up and make them beautiful for pets and their owners. For every dollar raised, Beneful is donating a dollar. We spent the day pulling weeds, planting bushes, trees and doing other maintenance at the park to make it a great place to take pets.

I had an awesome time hanging out with Beneful and their fantastic team. Including all of their fun, furry pets.  Check out Purina’s new Beneful line of meaty dog food and help keep your dog cool this summer with a doggie popsicle.

The prince (LOL, our lab puppy Dobby) prefers the cool of the air conditioned house to outside if it's very hot or humid. And one of his favorite treats are ice cubes.

It's good to know how thorough they are with checking product. I like the idea of a cooling mat as well.

This frozen treat for dogs must be so tasty for them to enjoy on hot days. My dog loves chicken broth so much so I bet this would be a hit with her.
