The Crystal Ball: A Rebecca Mystery

Rebecca and her neighbor, Mr. Rossi, seem to be having a run of bad luck. When Mr. Rossi sprains his wrist, Rebecca takes over the care and feeding of his carrier pigeons. Then a strange black pigeon delivers an eerie message warning Mr. Rossi of danger, and Rebecca must jump into action to find answers. Where did the pigeon come from, and what sort of danger is lurking? Is Rebecca herself now in danger as well? Only a visit to a fortune teller will reveal the truth! An illustrated “Looking Back” essay provides facts about the 1900s.

The New Girl

Each reader can imagine herself as the main character of this interactive story set in the world of Innerstar University™! With more than 20 different endings, girls will enjoy this book again and again to see how different decisions change the story. Plus, each book comes with a secret access code to unlock additional endings online!

I remember reading American Girl books growing up and was so excited to share these new titles with my girls!  At 5 and 6 they are a little young to be reading them on their own, so I lent them to the two girls who babysit my kids.  They are both 12 and absolutely loved all three books!  Their favorite was “A Smart Girl’s Guide to Liking Herself”.  They actually had a couple of the other books in the series and were excited to check out the latest edition!  After looking through this book I realized they were the perfect age to try it out!  It was full of ideas and suggestions about how to feel good about yourself and how to not let what other peers say about you get you down.  It also has a bunch of cool quizzes to help identify your strengths and weaknesses.  I would recommend this helpful book to any preteen getting ready for the challenge of becoming a teenager in the world today.  It is much more difficult than when I was a kid!

American Girl books are available on the American Girl website, Amazon or Barnes and Noble.  They are great for girls ages 8+ and most retail between $6.95-$9.95.
