Sparkling Cider Etched Bottle and Love Printable

I love sparkling cider! It feels all romantic and fun, but it doesn’t have the alcohol content! I think it’s the perfect drink to serve on Valentine’s Day for those that don’t drink alcohol. To up the fun this year, we etched a bottle of sparkling cider to add to the mood and the bottle can be saved after you’ve finished the drink and used as a vase for a few single stem roses or your favorite flower variety.

Etched Sparkling Cider Bottle

You’ll need:

  • Sparkling cider (in a glass bottle)
  • Etching cream
  • Foam paint brush
  • Vinyl
  • Cricut or similar cutting machine

Directions:

You’ll start by saving this free printable love graphic. You can use this graphic for other projects, too. Save it to your computer and send it to your cutting machine program to cut it out on vinyl. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter, you can print it onto paper and then trace the design or use carbon copy paper to copy the design over onto a piece of contact paper. If you do it that way, you’ll also need an exact-o knife to cut out the design.

Peel off your vinyl love design and place it where you want the design to appear on the bottle. You can tilt it or use it straight.

When your design is on the bottle, then paint on etching cream with a pretty thick coating on the glass. I just use one of those super cheap foam paint brushes and toss it when I’m done with the project. You can etch the entire bottle or just leave a rough paint brushed edge, which looks really neat when finished. Let the etching cream sit on the glass for 5-10 minutes, following the packing directions for your etching cream.

When the time is up, just carry the bottle to the sink and rinse away all the cream. You won’t see your design while you’re washing the etching cream away as the bottle will be wet, but don’t worry – it’s there even though you can’t see it.

Dry off the bottle, peel off your vinyl, and admire your design! I love doing gifts like this for my husband because we are at the point where we really don’t need anymore “stuff”. This gives me a way to give a “gift” of a romantic night in together.

After you’ve given this as a gift and enjoyed the sparkling cider together, you can re-purpose the gift as a DIY vase. It will hold a few stems really well without making them flop over like traditional wide opening vases. It’s wonderful for holding stems to represent the first few anniversaries you celebrate.

  19. I have always wanted to learn how to etch a bottle. I didn’t know it was so simple. What did you use to cut the vinyl? I have a cricut machine do you think that would work?

    • I used my cricut! :) Just load in the image, and then when you click on the image and it shows up if it shows to “write” only, you can edit the layers to be able to cut instead. I can’t remember exactly how I did it, but something with the flatten settings. If you get confused, email me and I’ll look under their settings again.
