Homemade Air Freshener
Did you know that you can create a homemade air freshener? It’s really easy – just a few quick steps and a few inexpensive supplies! This fun and easy DIY recipe would be perfect as a homemade gift for new moms, house warming, teacher gifts, or as a nice thank you gift for a friend! Let me show you how easy it is to make!
Homemade Air Freshener

What you’ll need:
- Glass jars with lids (great way to reuse those baby food jars!)
- 2 packets of non flavored gelatin
- ½ cup of boiling water
- ½ cup of ice water
- Food coloring
- Scented oil or perfume of your choice

Start by putting your two packs of gelatin powder in a bowl and pour the boiling water on top of the gelatin. Stir together until completely dissolved.
Next, add in your cold water and continue to stir to cool down your mixture.
Now, pour your gelatin mixture into your glass jars making sure you leave room at the top to add food coloring and scented oil and room to stir or shake your mixture.
Add in a fragrance using a favorite scented oil or essential oil or perfume. The amount to add depends both on the size of the jar and your preference for how strong of a scent you’d like. Smaller jars may use 3-5 drops and larger jars plan for 5-7 drops, adjusting accordingly.

Now, add your choice of food coloring color using 1-3 drops to get the intensity of color you desire. Your amount of coloring needed will also depend on the size of your jar.
Gently stir the mixture to disperse the scent and color evenly. You may also be able to close the jar and slowly invert the jar to mix.
Refrigerator the jar for 2 hours, or until completely set.
When your homemade air freshener is a solid gel you can start using it! Just place it in any cool spot avoiding sun exposure and leave the jar unsealed to fragrance the room.

Very neat idea! How long will it last and can you reuse it? I was also wondering if it would be possible to mix 2 colours and have that burst effect, like when you pour ink into water? Thanks! Lisa

What a brilliant idea! I had never thought of making my own air freshener before! With a toddle, this is much safer than burning scented candles or oils. Pinning for future use. Love it. Thanks for sharing! #turnituptuesday
