Meaningful Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Breakfast in bed: What’s better than giving mom a break from cooking? How about surprising her with breakfast in bed!

Homemade spa: Being a mom entails a lot of physical labor. Let your mom know how much you appreciate her hard work by helping her relax; create a homemade spa by turning on soothing music, rubbing her feet, and giving her a massage.

Candlelight dinner: Cook your mom’s favorite dish and enjoy it together over candlelight.

Service: Does your mom have a least favorite chore? Surprise her by completing these tasks without being asked. As a mother myself, the greatest acts of love my family give me come in the form of folded laundry, a loaded dishwasher, and a mopped kitchen floor.

Book of photos: Gather photos of you and your mother that depict your relationship. Present them in book, photo collage, or frame.

Special playlist: Compile a list of songs that describe your feelings towards your mother.

Hallmark card: Express the deep impact your mother has had in your life in a Hallmark card.

I can’t wait to celebrate my own mother this Mother’s Day. As I mentioned earlier, my mom is one of my best friends. Although we live in different states, not a day goes by that we don’t talk on the phone. I love how we can (and do) talk about everything. Through example, she has taught me many life lessons: the importance of hard work, service, family, faith, and most importantly, love.

These life lessons give me strength and confidence to conquer whatever life throws at me. I only hope that one day I can become the type of mother that she is to me. Watching the way she unconditionally loves me and my children makes me realize just how lucky I am to call this beautiful woman my mother.
