Using Our GoPro As A Family
When my husband wanted a GoPro years ago I laughed at him. I joked about all the extreme sports he wishes he could do and all the adventures I wish we were going on. But, being the good wife I am, I got him one despite my doubts. Now we have 3!
You may be familiar with all of the amazing GoPro footage circling YouTube and your Facebook wall. The skateboarders and skiers, base jumpers and underwater enthusiasts, all of these talented individuals and groups are able to share amazing views with us thanks to the compact, durable GoPro camera. But what about stay at home moms or fun loving dads? What about families? We take our cameras with us everywhere and capture some pretty rad everyday footage as we go.
I received samples to facilitate this post, all opinions are my own.

I absolutely cherish the moments caught by our handy little cameras and I smile when my 4-year-old yells from trying tricks on his bike, “Hey dad- GoPro this!!!” or “Who brought the selfie stick!?” while on a walk with the family. My kids are GoPro fans from the very beginning. Because of their love for watching their videos we are able to use them to create some awesome footage of our family adventures. Here are a few of our favorite ways to use our GoPro:
Strap it to the kids
Instead of us always holding the camera and filming the kids, we let them do the footwork! Wether it is hooked to their helmet, strapped to their chest, or clamped on the bike or stroller, some of my favorite candid family moments are captured this way. This video was shot using the brand new Hero 4 Session (this camera is rad), nothing better than catching your two-year-old yell, “I tooted.” as she hauls down a hill on her bike. Classic.
Strap GoPro to the dog
You get a pretty unique view of a game of fetch, a hike, or chasing down the kiddos when your dog has a camera strapped to their chest! Clipping it to our husky’s leash is one of our favorite ways to capture a new view.

Strap it to the car
We recently moved our family from Arizona to Alaska. Our GoPro cameras were rolling for a ton of the trip and we have this fantastic video to remember this amazing adventure. This footage was all shot using our Hero3 Black and Hero4 Black, I really wish we had our Hero4 Session on this trip, we got it just a week or two after we moved!
When it comes down to it, a GoPro is a great, affordable way to tell your families story. It is so easy to use and always captures great footage. You don’t have to be jumping off mountains or swimming with sharks to create content that will be absolutely stunning. So often we think the minute details of the average day are not worth documenting, but when they are gone, these are the moments I miss the most. In the short time since we made our Alaska video my mom has passed away. The few cameo moments she makes in this film are treasures to me! Gone are the days of bulky camcorders. Your families everyday adventures are easily captured on the handiest camera around.
And you know what? Your stories are worth being told.

I love GoPro’s such a creative way to capture family memories!
I am going to be participating in a mud run (Mudderella) & would love to have a GoPro to capture the day!
Itis pretty awesome, isn’t it? All the awesome things we can do with a goPro on our family adventures!
I love your photos! I’ve been wanting to get a GoPro for our family.
It’s great that such a rugged, adaptable camera has been made available to the public! It really allows the young moviemakers out there to let their imaginations run wild!
We have been talking about getting a GO PRo. Would have been excellent to have on our cruise.
wow this looks awesome. i would like a gopro for myself. lol
That is great! My husband wants a GoPro, so I may have to buy one for the whole family to use.
Having one of these would open up so many photo/video opportunities. I’d love to try one out!
Haha “I tooted” literally laughed out loud. Looks like such Alaskan adventures you guys are having with your GoPro.
I was just saying the other day how i would love to put a GoPro on my friends little girl for a day. She is five years old and is Non Verbal Autistic. It would be so cool to see the world threw her eyes.
Oh my goodness, the GoPro is on my holiday wish list. I think it would be so great for the WHOLE family… thanks for sharing
I have been wanting to get a GoPro! We hope to get one before our cruise!
I’d like to strap a GoPro to my son just to really get a good take on what his 3 y/o eyes see on a daily basis. I think it would be pretty interesting.
Great video! We love our go pro too!
We have friends with a GoPro and they have so much fun with it! They took it to the trmapoline park. So cool!
I am loving all the shots of your family. I understand totally about the shots of your mom and the little snippets. I recently lost my mom and those last few videos mean a lot. Lots of love and hugs to you on your loss.
I would strap it to the dog and take him for a walk. I’d love to get a view of what he sees when we are out and about.
I’ve seen a lot of great ‘everyday’ GoPro shots and videos and have been thinking it just might be a good way to get me into video. I want something simple and in the moment- and there are so many great GoPro aids.
I hadn’t really given much thought to a GoPro, but now that we have a dog, I think it would be a blast to put it on her!
I’ve been wanting a GoPro in the worst way for a while now. I think I could get some great shots for the blog.
It looks like you all have a lot of fun! The pictures are great. I would love to get a go pro for our family. We love to go all over and this would be fun to take along.
I have been wanting a GoPro camera for a while now. I think they are seriously awesome.
