Soft Pretzel Bites Recipe

Pretzel Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 TBSP brown sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 6 TBSP unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 1/2 cup flour
  • Vegetable oil
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon cold water
  • Coarse sea salt

Pretzel Directions:

Using a dough hook combine the warm water, sugar, yeast, and butter in the bowl of a stand mixer. Set aside for 5 minutes.

With the mixer on low speed combine yeast mixture with the salt and flour. Knead the dough on medium speed until it appears to be smooth and pulling away from the side of the bowl. (3-4 minutes)

Add more flour, 1 tablespoon at the time, if the dough is too wet.

Take the dough out, kneading into a ball with your hands.

Add a little bit of oil, coating the sides of the bowl. Add the dough ball into the bowl. Roll dough ball from side to side to coat the dough ball with the oil. Set the bowl in a warm area of the kitchen and cover it with a clean towel. Allow it to sit for at least an hour.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Pour 3 quarts of water with the baking soda added into a pot bringing it to boil on high heat.

Take the dough out of the bowl and cut it into 7-8 equal pieces. Roll each of the pieces into a long rope then cut each rope into small bite size pieces. (About 1 inch size).

Spoon several pieces at a time into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Using a large slotted spoon, remove the pretzel pieces. Put the pretzel bites onto the lined sheet without touching one another.

Use your beaten egg with water combination to brush the egg wash onto each pretzel dough bite. Sprinkle the tops of each with salt.

Bake at 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Take out of the oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.

Those look delicious! I'll have to be careful when I make these. Soft pretzels are my favorite, so I might eat all of them at once.

Yum! We love soft pretzels at the mall. It'll be so fun to be able to make them ourselves.
