Meat-tastic Spanish Rice Recipe

Ingredients: Traditional Spanish rice is made with long grain rice. However, the recipe can be adjusted to include any type of rice. However, due to the cooking process, instant rice is not recommended. Brown rice and wild rice can add a wonderful flavor. In addition to the rice, one pound of ground beef will be needed as well as three tablespoons of bacon drippings. Vegetable oil can be substituted for the bacon fat. However, the bacon will provide a richer taste. In addition to the meat and rice, an onion, a clove of garlic and a green bell pepper will be needed.

These ingredients should all be neatly chopped before beginning to cook. Finally, two cans of stewed tomatoes and any preferred seasonings will complete the ingredients list. Most people find that salt and chili powder are best for seasoning the rice.

Cooking Directions: In order to cook the rice dish, the rice should first be browned in the oil or bacon drippings. Once it begins to turn brown, then the chopped onion, garlic and bell peppers can be added and saut茅ed along with the ground beef until the meat is cooked thoroughly and the onion becomes tender. Then, the stewed tomatoes and the rest of the seasonings should be added.

The mixture will then need to be covered and allowed to simmer until the rice is tender and most of the liquid is gone. Throughout the cooking time, it can be helpful to taste the rice and add seasoning as needed.

Spanish Rice Recipe Variations

Simple Alterations: Spanish rice recipes can be made even easier by using Spanish Rice products such as mixes and pre-made frozen meals. In addition to the chili powder, many people also like to add garlic salt and cumin. To serve as a whole meal, bell peppers can be stuffed and baked with the Spanish rice, or it can be rolled up in a tortilla and served with salsa and cheese.

This Spanish rice recipe is a great recipe that can be included in almost any meal. While it makes a lovely side dish, Spanish rice can stand on its own when meat is added to the mix.
