3 Habits for a Healthy Pregnancy
I remember when I found out I was pregnant. Seeing that little heartbeat on the screen was such an amazing moment for me. It literally took my breath away. As I walked away from the doctor’s office the reality of the situation washed over me. I was growing a human being, what a beautiful gift, what a huge responsibility. I wanted to give my baby the healthiest start in this world that I could. I had to make some changes to my habits. There a bunch of things you can do to have a healthy pregnancy, but these three habits were the biggest for me.
I received compensation and samples for this post. All opinions are my own.

Get Enough Rest
I know, you thought this was going to talk about staying fit. Staying fit is important while you are pregnant, but you need to be careful about over doing it. I am a night owl, always have been. I always have a million projects going and I am always on the move. When I became pregnant I had to learn to really listen to my body. It was hard, but one of the most important lessons I learned. When your body says rest, rest! There is a reason you are so tired, you body is growing a baby!

Eat The Right Food
Eating is hard when you are pregnant. You always hear about the cravings and aversions, but what about just not wanting to eat? Or eating everything in sight? When I am pregnant I feel like I am all over the place! But I always have times when eating becomes just another thing on my to do list. Nothing sounds good, everything gives me heartburn, and I feel full after a few bites. But I know I still need to eat! It can be hard, but finding snacks and small meals that are healthy and work for you is so important! Even though all I wanted to eat was root beer and apple pie, some of my favorite snacks are:
- Apple with cheddar cheese
- Peanut Butter Banana Protein Smoothies
- Trail Mix
- Hummus and Turkey Roll Ups
- Granola and Vanilla Yogurt
- Veggies and Hummus or Guacamole

Get Your Vitamins and Nutrients
Because eating can be hard, because you might be throwing up everything you eat, you cannot rely on your food to be giving you all the nutrients your body needs. Did you know that in general, approximately 68% of women are calcium deficient, but when a pregnant woman lacks dietary calcium (which is often the case), her developing baby draws this much-needed calcium directly from HER bones, which can affect her health later in life. Popular prenatal vitamins only have a small percentage of recommended the daily calcium. Have a look at this info graphic:

During pregnancy you should be getting 1000mg of calcium daily and Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews are an easy and delicious way to make sure you’re getting the recommended amount. They come in milk chocolate and caramel flavors. The Milk Chocolate is like a Tootsie Roll, and you get to eat two!

Two chews gives you 100% of your daily recommended-plus Vitamin D and K! They are each individually wrapped so you can even toss them in your purse so you don’t forget. Pregnancy brain is a real thing!

It can definitely be hard to eat right and get enough rest during pregnancy. Choosing the right supplements is so important.
Great tips! It is so important to start giving children a healthy life in the womb. It affects the rest of their lives!
Getting pregnant for me was a huge wakeup call. All of a sudden it wasn’t just me I was responsible for, it also was this beautiful life that would become my son. Eating right became super important and I looked at it like how is this food benefitting me and therefore the baby? These are awesome tips!
All 3 tips are equally important I think. Since you are taking care of yourself and your baby this is definitely a mantra pregnant girls should follow.
It can be so difficult to eat healthy with all the cravings pregnancy imposes on you! Any attempts to help with that are appreciated!
I will never forget seeing the kids heartbeats for the first time. It is so amazing to think about the fact you are growing a tiny human.
I had a hard time with morning sickness when i was pregnant. It was hard for me to stay hydrated. It is so important to drink a lot of water.
oh man, eating healthy during pregnancy is always hard because it’s in that time that you body craves everything you SHOULDN’T be eating! lol. Your 3 tips are absolutely perfect though. I never tried Viactiv while pregnant but they look really good and they taste like a tootsie roll? sign me up!
A good night’s sleep every night makes a huge different. You definitely have to keep up on those vitamins too.
I always struggle with eating right while pregnant because of cravings and I always end up craving things I’m allergic to or really bad for me. I also have a hard time taking vitamins, but thank goodness for the person who invented gummies and chews. This makes taking vitamins so much easier.
Love this. I recently just suffered my 2nd miscarriage while trying for #7 and I hope to get to do this all over again someday soon.
I am so sorry for your loss Jeanine. I have two angel babies myself and I know how hard it can be. I hope you get to do it all again too!
Yes so important! I loved Viactiv and yes, get all the sleep you can!!
Eating right was always hard for me, especially when I’d get those crazy cravings. I was always craving sweets and fruits just didn’t do it for me.
I tried really hard to eat well while I was pregnant. My downfall was my morning sickness and my craving for bbq potato chips!
Food, sleep, exercise, hydration, vitamins and fish oil… makes my babies healthy!
Thanks so much for sharing this. It’s so important to keep yourself and the baby in good health. I love it.
I am past that point in my life now, but when I was pregnant I ate a lot more fruits and protein. If you eat healthy it will be great for you and the baby.
It’s so important to do all of these things when you’re pregnant. You’re taking care of two people afterall <3
