Finding Time for Mommy to Have Me Time
I have five kids. 聽Sometimes I wonder why I’m not bald from pulling my hair out in frustration. I love them so stinkin’ much, but honestly they can drive me super nuts sometimes. I find that sometimes all my time, every moment is spent doing something for my kids. It can be very overwhelming. It took me many years to realize that I’m happier if I spend just a small amount of time each week away from the kids (and husband) and just having “Me time.”

I received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.聽
Take a Class
I love taking exercise classes. 聽My gym has a wide range, and excellent child care. 聽I drop off the kids to play and lose myself in Zumba or whatever! 聽If you don’t have a gym membership, check your community. 聽You can tons of different classes. 聽The exercise will give you an escape and help your body and mind.
Community programs are also available for craft classes, education, the works. 聽Find something you will enjoy and get out there. 聽It’s wonderful to meet new people and develop a hobby or further educate yourself.
Take a Trip
Find a group of girlfriends and take a trip. 聽It can be a staycation, a trip to a spa, camping or even Disneyland. 聽Last year, I went hiking in Havasupai. 聽I had time to sit and enjoy nature and think. I really got to know myself and what I was capable of. I’m excited with the possibilities the future holds!
Have some beauty time
Getting your hair or nails done routinely will also give you a bit of me time. It takes several hours to color my hair, I get time to chat with my stylist (a close friend), read a book, and just be with myself. At the end, I feel beautiful and refreshed! Check with beauty schools in your area. 聽Don’t be afraid, the students are closely monitored and don’t serve customers until they have gone through a ton of training. 聽You will save yourself a ton of money and look fantastic!
Get up Early
If you get up before your kids, you will have a bit of pleasant time by yourself. 聽Don’t clean, or start the wash. Just grab a cup of cocoa and a magazine and just chill. Your day will be nothing but running as soon as the littles rise. I love peppermint hot chocolate and Entertainment Weekly.
If you want to leave the hassle of paper behind (every magazine I have is always ripped or wet within a day) you can use your tablet and download the Next Issue app, a magazine subscription service that brings over 131 magazines directly to your fingertips for one monthly fee. 聽You no longer have to get separate subscriptions for all of your favorites, and with a premium subscription you not only monthly issues of magazines, but weekly as well! These aren’t random, or little known magazines but instead favorites like Cosmopolitan, Allure, Better Homes & Gardens, Men’s Health and National Geographic!
Check out how amazingly easy it is to use!
I took a trip to Las Vegas recently with my husband and another couple. 聽I was able to use Next Issue on my car drive up and back. It was awesome! It was so cool to be able to scroll through the magazines, pick one that’s interesting to read and then just store my tablet in my bag. It takes hardly any space to bring a tablet! 聽The selection is absolutely amazing. 聽I found a new favorite in Geek (yes, I’m a crazy geek girl) and was pleasantly surprised to see Brides聽(I don’t need it, but I remember how expensive Bridal magazines are!)
If you鈥檇 like to sign up for Next Issue, you can聽try 30 days FREE!聽Subscriptions start at $9.99 a month, the cost of some magazines monthly subscription fee, and you’ll get 131 for that price! Next Issue is compatible with iPhones, iPads and Android tablets and Windows 8 PCs and tablets.
Finding time for Mommy to have me time is really important. 聽You need to be the best for your family, and being your best means every once in awhile taking a step back. 聽It always makes you appreciate what you have when you can step back and take a look at all the amazing things in your life!

You are so right on with this. I am guilty of not making enough me time.
It’s hard to find mommy time sometimes. Thanks for the ideas!
This sounds awesome.. I love to read magazines on my kindle or iPad and this sure looks like a thing I would enjoy…love when I can read a magazine on my time and don’t have to lug around a big bag of paper… thanks for sharing
I exercise, it’s amazing how much better I feel after a workout and it’s an hour that I give to myself every day!
It’s important for everyone to have time to themselves! My favorite thing is to go look through little stores, since no one wants to come with me!
I love magazines because you can read little bits at a time. I’ll have to check this out.
I long for mommy time most days. You’re right…it’s soo important!
I try to find my time in the morning before everyone gets up. I try to wake up a couple hours before everyone else to get my day started on the right foot.
Lately, there has been little to none of that. Any time to myself has to be spent working. I think I need to schedule in some personal downtime soon though.
Trips are a great idea. I just came back from 5 days away and it was really nice to have some quality adult time with other women.
Oh My God I would LOVE to get my favorite magazines on my phone!!! I would seriously read them on my phone but not carry them around with me in paper…what a great idea. And a free month! Woot.
Find time for myself is such a challenge. I tend to stay up a bit later than the family, and my husband sneaks in time for himself by getting up at the crack of dawn.
When I get like that I ralley friends together and we have a mothers night out. Maybe grab dinner or go to a movie.
ME time is really hard to find. I get up early already; but that is office time. Not me time. /sigh. I really would love to take a class for just me.
My me time is when I wake up early, enjoy my coffee and some silence before the day starts. That is, if I don’t sleep through my alarm! Yet, that trip to Disney sounds nice, I could go for that! Great tips!
Finding time to just “be” can be so hard for busy moms. Next Issue seems like a great way to relax when you do get a few minutes to yourself!
I’m not a mom, but I still need to find time for myself or I’ll go nuts. I can only imagine how much more a mom would need that alone time. Never feel bad for taking care of yourself. If you’re not happy, nobody’s happy!
I love your idea to take a class… I would love to take a photography course or something artsy… or go back to nursing school! BUT… I did wake up early today and it was AWESOME! I feel like I’ve had a better day as a whole!
My me time usually happens at the gym… ha! It is where I can get my aggression out and can finally shower in peace… ha! The little things in life.
When I work out, that is my me time. I get a good hour a day to myself 馃檪
I took a photography class. It was nice to spend time away from the kids and learn about something that I enjoyed! I really like taking trips with just me or me and the husband too, but that’s not always feasible!
It’s rare to get a moment by myself. I would love to lay out in the Maldives while catching up on my mags 馃槈
