Easy Homemade Instant Oatmeal Recipe!

As my little guy got a little older, I was in need of some ideas of what to feed him before bedtime.  Something filling.  Something that would keep him nice and full throughout the night so he wouldn’t wake up hungry.  And that’s when I thought of oatmeal.  It needed to be easy.  But I didn’t want the sugar and preservative loaded (not to mention pricey!) packs of instant oatmeal.  And making a fresh batch of oatmeal each night just didn’t suit my fancy – not simple enough, at all.  And then I came across this homemade instant oatmeal recipe.  I modified it a little bit to our family’s tastes.  And I do add-ins to mix things up.  And it’s perfect.  Since then, my little guy doesn’t eat anything after dinner time, but he loves a nice bowl of oatmeal for breakfast in the morning.  Quick.  Easy.  And I can control exactly what’s going in it!

It’s so easy to make, costs significantly less than oatmeal packets, and is so much healthier!

Easy Homemade Instant Oatmeal Recipe!

10 c. instant oats (must be instant, not old fashioned)
2/3 c. dried milk powder
3/4 c. brown sugar
4-5 tbsp. cinnamon (depending on tastes)

Pulse 5 c. instant oats in a food processor until it is a powder.  Add in dried milk, brown sugar, & cinnamon to blend.  Add contents of food processor to remaining 5 c. of whole instant oats and mix to combine.  Store in a large container and scoop out individual servings, or scoop out individual servings and store in snack bags.

To make oatmeal:  Scoop oatmeal mix into a bowl (I do maybe 1/3 c. for my toddler son).  Add water or milk to barely cover (little less than 3/4 c.).  Microwave for about 1 minute.  Add more milk or water, if needed, to reach desired consistency.  Can add dried fruit, nuts, honey, maple syrup, or anything else you like (my son loves chopped up bananas!).

I enjoy adding crasins or slices of banana into my oatmeal. I do add brown sugar and butter too. Thanks.

This is great. Also healthy and at a great cost reduction in comparison to the pricey instant Oatmeals out there. Thanks so much. Can't wait to try it. Carol L
