I Spy Remixed – On the Road Math Game!

Our summer has been busy but even with all of our travels, I still set aside time each week to work with my four young boys and help them learn new skills and concepts. We played learning games, built their vocabulary with the new places and experiences we had, worked on some workbooks and read lots of books together.

One of the really fun ways we kept on learning while on the road this summer was with our own spin on the classic I Spy game. Rather than just use a color we would search by shapes, letters, and numbers.

I Spy Remixed

I Spy Remixed Learning Game

I Spy is played by one player looking outside of the vehicle and selecting something that stands out to them. This player than says “I spy something… (insert clue here)”. You can shake up the classic I Spy game by using a different style than just giving a color as your clue. Get creative and use the skills your children are working on in school or preschool to make the game different every time. Here are some example clues:

  • I spy something… square
  • I spy something… with more than two colors
  • I spy something… with the letter Q
  • I spy five things that are the same
  • I spy something that is taller than a giraffe

Zorbitz, an educational kids math app, is challenging you to share your best math games and tips! All you have to do is head over to the Zorbits Math Adventure Facebook page. Share a creative way that parents can help children ages 3-5 learn one of their early math skills: counting, identifying shapes, recognizing colors, or comparing amounts (more/less than).

  1. Great way to keep kids busy in the car! We play I Spy, but usually just with colors. I like your version!

  2. That’s a great way to keep the kids occupied while driving down the road.

  3. How fun – it’s such a simple change to make, but I can see how it would be a great way to reinforce their skills. I think we’ll start using this when doing grocery shopping too 馃檪
