How to Cut a Bloomin Onion

I am an #OutbackBestMates brand ambassador. As such, I have received gift cards and compensation as a thank you for my time and efforts. I also had the opportunity to visit Outback headquarters on a press trip to try the new menu before it’s launch. All opinions are 100% my own.

I had a really fun and unique opportunity to head to Florida to be among the first group of press to ever tour Outback headquarters and test kitchen facilities. I got to see right where the magic happens – where the team and head chef work to create new recipes and perfect long time favorites. It’s where they dream up the new limited time menu items.

It was a really great trip filled with blogging friends, cooking demos, and of course lots of Outback food! The highlight of the trip was meeting my long time bloggy bestie, Brett of This Mama Loves!

Another really fun part for me was watching as the chef’s showed us how they make croutons, ranch dressing, and their famous bloomin’ onion. I was able to take a video clip of the process on how to cut a bloomin onion by hand, it’s pretty cool to see. They are able to use a machine, now, which saves a ton of time.

We also had a chance to try the brand NEW limited time Moonshine BBQ menu before it was available to the public. You might have noticed me tweeting about the secret menu. I was bummed I couldn’t share then, but I’m excited to show you these drool worthy menu items now!

Their latest recipes are made with real moonshine. Choose from new menu items including:

  • Sirloin with Moonshine BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
  • Moonshine BBQ Ribs
  • Moonshine BBQ Wood-Fire Grilled Wings
  • Moonshine BBQ Chopped Salad
  • Skillet Apple Pie

*Menu may vary by location

If you don’t consume alcohol, don’t worry! All the alcohol cooks out of the sauce so as long as you pick items that are cooked in the sauce, rather than just topped with it on the side, this shouldn’t be a reason to be concerned. I don’t drink alcohol and I’m pregnant, so that was important to me to know.

Look at these amazing dishes! Below you’ll see the wings (by far my favorite), ribs and homemade macaroni, and the newest dessert skillet apple pie.

I was so impressed with the new menu items. The wings are absolutely finger lickin’ good. I had to go back and grab a few more. In my opinion, they were even better than the ribs. The macaroni and cheese was so creamy and soft, the way macaroni really should be but rarely is. The dessert was great, but I’m not sure it’ll sway me away from my new favorite, Outback’s carrot cake that I fell in love with at my last Outback visit.

In the spirit of their new menu, Outback is helping you get yer ‘shine on with their fun Moonshine Name Generator at Outback.com/Name. My official name is Jolie Jet Fuel.

You’ll be able to find the new Moonshine Menu at your local Outback Steakhouse for a limited time available for dine-in and curbside pick-up.

  9. What a yummy trip! 🙂 It’s been far too long since we’ve eaten at Outback. We must change that soon!

    1. They do have a machine that does the cuts, now. They have to make the initial cut and scoop out the core, than the machine does the rest. This is how they originally cut their bloomin’ onions before they had several stores and a huge demand to need to come up with a quicker solution.
