I have heard the word “probiotics” so many times and I have heard how good they can be for you to help with digestive issues or just helping to keep your system healthy.
I have been meaning to give probiotics a try, but it’s a bit intimidating to go out on a limb and try something new when you’re not even sure you understand the why behind it all.
A Short Introduction to Probiotics
If you don’t know what Probiotics are it’s time for a short lesson so you don’t get caught in the confusion, like I did. The word “probiotic” comes from the Greek language and means “for life”. They are live friendly bacteria that can help your body. They have been used for centuries as natural ingredients.
There are a lot of benefits from probiotics such as improved nutrient absorption or support for your digestive health. The benefits are specific to the different types of probiotic strain available.
So, it is important to understand what type of strain is available in the different foods you consume.
Often, labels will tell you only the cultures and not the strain available. The first two words, written in italics, are the culture name with the following third word of the name being the strain’s name.
When reading the labels, you need to be watching for that third part of their names as well or the probiotics may not be doing you the good you hoped for.
If you see the Lactobacillus casei Shirota, sometimes called L. casei Shirota, you can feel confident knowing that you’re getting the strain of probiotic bacteria that is backed by over 75 years of research.
This research shows that the L. casei Shirota strain can reach your digestive system alive, without being killed off by harsh acids in your stomach! This means, it can actually make it far enough to be able to aid and help your digestive system. Having this strain is what makes Yakult so unique!
Research shows that, “drinking at least one bottle of Yakult brand probiotic drinks per day may help: Balance your digestive system with beneficial bacteria, Improve regularity, Support overall health.”
I took on a Yakult challenge to try their probiotic drink for 10 days. If just hearing the word probiotics wasn’t foreign enough, I was surprised when the drinks arrived.
They were small, something that could fit in the palm of my hand, and looked like they might be a small bottle of milk. I’m not a big fan of milk and very rarely will drink a glass of plain milk so I was a bit hesitant to give the drinks a try.
Once I opened my first Yakult drink up and tasted it I was completely surprised! Their probiotic drink is GOOD!! It tastes to me a bit like kid’s drinkable yogurts. It has that thin drinkable consistency of a drinkable yogurt.
I am absolutely horrible about remembering to take daily pills or vitamins, but I haven’t once hesitated or forgotten to grab a Yakult daily! Since they are right there in the fridge when I open up my fridge to grab a snack I see them and will often just grab a Yakult and call it my snack, it’s that good!
I have very literally started to look forward to my daily Yakult and occasionally drink a second one for the day as the directions call for 1-2 per day.
Everyone that has come over to my house in the past few weeks has been greeted with me saying, “Come in, I have something I want you to try!!”
Since I received enough samples for a 10-day test in both Original and Light and since I was completely surprised by their great taste – I’m eager to show them to my friends and family! I’ve had my husband, brother, mom, and our neighbor friends all give them a try.
They all said the same thing as me, they thought they tasted great!
Best of all, I have noticed a difference in my digestive health. Within hours of my first Yakult I noticed my body doing some cleaning out. They have helped me be more regular and consistent.
I absolutely recommend Yakult Probiotic drink! It’s something I will continue to take and purchase because I like them that much!
