Toddler Fashion: Freshly Picked

I received Freshly Picked Moccasins in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

By now you have probably seen cute moccasins on the feet of babes all around you. You have probably seen or heard about Susan Peterson, or maybe you just saw her on Shark Tank? If you haven’t than you missed out on her amazing story of how Freshly Picked came to be. I will fill you in with the condensed version.

Susan was frustrated about the lack of awesome baby shoes on the market so she set out to make her won. Working from her kitchen table and using her little boy as a product tester she figured out how to make her adorable moccasins. To fund her company she spent the summer of 2009 breaking glass out of old windows from her brother’s window installation company to recycle the aluminum frames into money at the scrap yard! Amazing right?

The rest is history.  Since then they have been worn by celebrity babies and neighborhood cuties alike. Each pair is made by hand, here in the United States, out of the best quality leather around, and most importantly they stay on your babies feet!

My kids LOVE their moccasins. Especially my little lady, she is 21 months old and has been saying the word moccasin for 8 months already. In fact, I let her pick her own color this time. It took her awhile but she finally decided on Raspberry. My son is wearing Weathered Brown. We have quite a few pairs and I continue to be amazed at how well they hold up. In fact yesterday they passed the one test I have really been worried about, summer in Arizona asphalt. We are well into the 100 degree weather here, it was 108 today, and I have been worried about my kids walking in parking lots and on the hot sidewalk. We bought our first moccs last fall so we have not had the chance to try them out! I am happy to say they passed with flying colors. My kids did not even complain about them being warm on their feet.

The most common questions I get asked about our moccasins are how do they hold up on toddlers busy feet and are they worth the money. To the first I say wonderful. My kids think they are comfy and they are almost always my daughters first choice of shoe. Her Platinum moccs, they literally match everything, have been on her feet almost daily since October. We don’t have snow or cold to deal with here so they were a great winter shoe.

I snapped a quick photo with my phone and, as you can see, they show signs of wear but really not that much! The leather is still beautiful and even though you can see where they wear on the bottom the leather is still think and comfy on the soles. The tops are still absolutely gorgeous minus some slight wear on the very tip toe where she drags her feet when she wanders.

As for the price, that is a personal opinion. At $60 a pair, they are a bit pricier than your average child’s shoe. But keep in mind you are paying for high quality leather and locally handmade goods. That being said, I do order my kids a size too big, they still stay on great and they fit longer. I know for sure that I will hang on to them for my future kiddies, they will be passed on and worn for a long time.

Freshly Picked is not just a hot shop for kids moccasins anymore as now they carry beautiful totes for women as well. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of those babies!
