This saturday I had so much fun participating in the Home Depot DIY Workshop. When I arrived at the store everyone was so friendly and welcoming! We went ahead and set up for the students to arrive and I was even given my very own iconic orange apron. I wish my dad had been there to see that!

This particular workshop’s focus was on creating a super cute Christmas tree for the front yard. This project involved the use of some heavy power tools like a jigsaw, a drill, and an sander. I had used all of these tools before, but many of our students had not. It was so fun to watch each of them come forward and give the tools a try!

When I had seen advertising for Home Depot’s I had no idea that they would be so hands on! Everyone got a chance to ask questions and get their hands dirty, it was awesome! If you didn’t get a chance to go, but still want to learn how to make this project, you can find instructions and a how to video here.

Here in the desert we don’t get much snow so the leaders of the workshop put theirs in a pot and stuffed some cotton batting in to make it a little more festive. I thought it was such a cute personal touch to add to their tree!

That got me thinking, how will I customize my own tree? My holiday decor is not so traditional. I think I will be painting my trees gold and white and placing my lights in different designs. I am leaning toward one that says “Joy”, one with polka dots, and one with stars. What do you think? I think it will be so fun!
