Christmas Web – A Fun Family Christmas Tradition!

This past Christmas we started a fun new family Christmas tradition that was so much fun and quickly became our favorite Christmas tradition of year. The tradition, The Christmas Web, was started by a family in 1992 as a way to bring back the fun and anticipation of Christmas with their teenage children. Their first year was a huge success and their family has carried on their tradition every year since and is now sharing this fun tradition to the world.

Christmas Web Christmas Tradition Explained

Seeing a picture that doesn’t give you the depth and dimension of the Christmas Web can make it confusing to grasp what you’re seeing so let me briefly share what happens. We first brought out all the presents and stacked them neatly under the tree and set aside one special present for each of our boys. This special gift can be a gift from their elf if you participate in the Elf on the Shelf activities as their special elf knows just what they’ve been wishing for all year. The elf continues on his mischief fun for the holiday season by hiding this special gift and leading a line of yarn starting at the present and winding over, under and throughout the room making a web of strings as it goes. The magic wand makes it easy to unwind the yarn and setup the web throughout the room. Our web went across our whole family room, kitchen, down the hallway, into the bathroom, all over! Then, you end your line with the magic wand stopping in the child’s stocking.

When your children wake up in the morning, they are greeted with the surprise of a maze of strings! My kids were so surprised and giggled about the maze all morning, even after the web was long gone. They each grabbed their magic wand and we helped them follow their string and wind back up the yarn slowly inching closer to finding their special present. We had a really great time both setting up and winding down the Christmas Web. My husband, brother, and I each took a line to set up the web on Christmas Eve and we had a great time twisting back and forth past each other and coming up with creative ways to wind a path. It created really fun memories we’ll cherish for years to come.
