The Best Way to Combine Breast and Bottle Feeding

Having a newborn baby is full of many exciting and frustrating times. Unfortunately, newborns don’t come with an owner’s manual (oh how I wish they did); and a lot of first-time parenting involves trial and error as you get to know your baby. Although nursing comes easily to some, it takes most babies quite a while to figure things out. Whether you choose to breastfeed, bottle feed, or combine the two, I’m all about what’s doing best for mom, baby, and your current situation.

I received samples and compensation in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

The Best Way to Combine Breast and Bottle Feeding

breast and bottle

There is no doubt that breast milk is extremely beneficial for newborn babies and recommended by pediatricians. However, I also know that a lot women have a difficult time breastfeeding, can’t produce milk, or can’t breastfeed due to certain circumstances. For personal reasons, I chose to combine breast and bottle feeding with both of my babies.

For the first five months of both of my children’s lives, I alternated between breast and bottle every few feedings. A lot of women asked me how in the world I was able to give my babies a bottle and still have them latch while nursing. The answer: it’s all about choosing the perfect bottle!

  3. what a nice prize pack-I’ve got a friend who is having a baby shower soon and this is definitely a great gift for a new mother. When my children were younger I couldn’t breastfeed even though I wanted to try because of certain meds I was taking would be passed on in the breastmilk…

  4. I’m expecting my 3rd and I plan to do a combo of both this time!

  5. I’m not able to fully nurse my daughter because of horrible vasospasm pain. I pump and bottle feed her most of her feedings. This would be great to try out.

  6. I was able to pump and breastfeed for the first 2-3 months with each of my kids. Sadly, my babies got very confused from the bottle I used and would only take bottles after they really got used to them.

  7. awesome post. i dont have kids but my friends do and some of them have expressed things like this as well.

  8. Interesting tips, my sister has several Chicco products. I don’t know much about breastfeeding but this sounds like valuable information.

  9. I was totally overwhelmed with bf so the combo was definitely my technique for a while. Then straight to the bottle. Glad that’s over but will miss my little babies that small!

  10. It is all in the bottle if doing both will work. This is a great design. I will have to share this with my friend who is expecting.

  11. I wish I had these bottles for my girls when they were babies. They look like they work great! I definitely think it’s important to have bottles on hand too. If you’re breastfeeding and someone else watches your child, they’ll need to have the bottle.

  12. Great post! I breastfed both my girls but it was hard finding good bottles once I stopped. I used Adiri bottles, those work awesome!

  13. This would be great for my little one as I nurse and use bottle at the same time. he is quite choosy and fuzzy if he found out that there’s a difference

  14. I nursed my son so I don’t know a lot about bottles, but I can see how this would be a great one for babies who would otherwise have a lot more gas and colic! I will have to tell my SIL about this bottle. She is having problems with nursing.

  15. I bottle fed from day one and it was hard to find a good bottle at first.

  16. Chicco seems like a great brand of bottles to use for your little one. My baby days are over but if any of my friends ever need a recommendation I’ll be sure to mention this brand.

  17. Sounds great! I did both with my older 4 kids, but the last 2 were strictly breast. I think its important to keep bottles etc on hand! You just never know.

  18. This is such a great post. I struggled a lot combining breast and bottle for my baby Miss and this would have been so helpful. I went through about five different bottles. The giveaway is awesome, too. Thanks for sharing
