7 Of the Most Enjoyable Family-Friendly Destinations to visit when in Greece

Greece is one of the best places in the world to enjoy a family holiday. It’s safe, inexpensive, and home to dozens of family friendly locations filled with interesting things to see and do.

This article will take a look at 7 of the most enjoyable family friendly destinations to visit when in Greece.

#1 – Corfu

Corfu, an island in the Adriatic sea, is one of the most popular family friendly holiday locations in Greece, and for good reason. The island is home to dozens of family friendly attractions, including long sandy beaches, fields filled with colourful flowers, museums, art galleries, open air cinemas, and more. Corfu’s world famous Old Town, a well preserved town filled with well preserved Venetian, British, and French buildings, is also an enjoyable place to explore on a daytrip. Many of Corfu’s hotels and resorts are family friendly with some even running special events specifically for families and children.

#2 – Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, is considered by many to be Greece’s capital of culture. The city is home to a number of interesting museums running excellent exhibitions that tell the history of Greece, art galleries that show off the work of local Greek artists, and dozens of well preserved ancient buildings and palaces that were built hundreds of years ago. Thessaloniki’s waterfront promenade, an uninterrupted promenade more than 3 miles in length, is also perfect for enjoying a leisurely stroll by the sea. While Thessaloniki doesn’t have any family friendly resorts, it does contain a number of family friendly hotels and self-service apartments.

#3 – Rhodes

The island of Rhodes, one of the largest islands in Greece, is full of interesting things to see and do. Its beaches are widely considered to be amongst the best in the world, its archaeological sites are educational and interesting to explore, and its medieval town is home to some of the best preserved medieval buildings in Greece. Families are well catered for in Rhodes, too, with dozens of family orientated resorts located close to the island’s best beaches.

#4- Crete

Crete, an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, is the biggest and most diverse island in Greece. With its world class beaches, excellent museums, interesting archaeological sights, exciting water parks, and beautiful historical buildings and churches, it has a little bit of something for everyone. Crete is also one of the most family friendly islands in Greece with many family resorts spread out throughout the island.

#5 – Zante

Zante is one of the lesser known holiday islands in Greece. Still, it is an excellent place to enjoy a family holiday with a number of stunning beaches, Venetian gardens with impressive examples of Venetian architecture, and clear waters that are perfect for snorkeling. The island is also home to a marine park where you can swim with turtles and other marine creatures. Zante contains many family friendly places to stay, including hotels, resorts, and self-service apartments.

#6 – Paros

Paros, a small island located in the centre of the Cyclades, is the perfect Greek island to enjoy a relaxed family holiday. If you want to enjoy a quiet, lazy beach holiday, then Paros is the island for you. Other family attractions on Paros include a massive water park filled with slides and rides, a riding centre offering horse rides on the beach, and a sailing club where boats can be rented for trips out into the Mediterranean Sea. Since Paros is one of the quieter islands, it does not have many resorts. The island does, however, have a number of family friendly hotels and self-service apartments open for stay.

#7 – Alonissos

Alonissos is relatively undeveloped compared to most Greek islands. It contains very few resorts, hotels, and apartments, and it doesn’t have any large towns or cities, either. This makes Alonissos the perfect place to spend your Greek getaway in a secluded island away from the bustling crowds on the more populated Greek islands. Some of Alonissos’ best attractions include crystal clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling, beautiful sandy beaches, and an excellent marine park containing seals and other marine animals. Family friendly guesthouses are located throughout the island.

Conclusion

The seven locations listed above are some of the most enjoyable family friendly destinations to visit in Greece. Keep them in mind when deciding on places to visit on future family holidays. You won’t be disappointed.
