First Sounds File Folder Game

A teacher’s work is never done. I never knew how true this statement was until I became a full time teacher. I worked all day, brought a whole bunch of stuff home, and then I worked all night. I thought about my cute students over dinner, during date night, and even while I slept. I kept a notepad by my bed for jotting down quick ideas or solutions that would pop into my head in the middle of the night. I was constantly thinking of ways to teach my kids and ways to be better at my job.

File Folder

I received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

One thing I loved to do was come up with hands on ways for my kids to think about what we were learning. They loved playing games and file folder games were a great solution for fast finishers. Here is cute folder game that you can whip up in minutes and costs next to nothing! This game would be great for a preschool or kindergarten aged child.

You will need:

IMG_4758 Cut out the pictures you want from the alphabet flash cards and tape them to your file folder. Run your folder and your sheet of letters through your laminator.

IMG_4760 Cut out letters and add VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back™ Coins to the folder and the back of the letters. I added arrows to make which dot belongs to which picture more clear. Add a plastic bag to the back to hold all your pieces and instructions.

IMG_4761 Let your students match the beginning sound to the picture. When they are ready for a challenge you can switch out the letters for ending sounds or even blends. These games are very versatile thanks to the Velcro circles on the backs of the pieces. Keep an eye out for flash cards at your local dollar store, they have great packs for math and reading all the time!

What other file folder games could you make with VELCRO® Brand products?
