3 Ingredient Homemade Finger Paint
This post is sponsored by Clorox—helping you find the joy in making a mess.
One of my favorite aspects of motherhood is watching my toddler explore through his senses. I’m constantly amazed just how quickly he’s able to learn when I try to incorporate sensory activities into our daily playtime. This past week, I decided to venture into the unknown – homemade finger paint. To say the least, this hands-on activity was a roaring success!
Combining learning with fun, I was able to use finger paint to teach about the cold temperatures, smooth textures, and mixing colors. At first, my son was a little timid and shy and he gently touched the silky paint. However, after about 3 minutes of experimentation, he dumped the paint cups and smeared paint everywhere! The smile that appeared on his sweet little face as he created this artistic mess is something I’ll always remember.
Now, I must admit, although I love encouraging creative play, I absolutely DREAD cleanup time. Why is it that the activities we have the most fun doing always create the largest mess? However, knowing that Clorox® Regular-Bleach is here to help with all of my cleanup needs, I’m able to focus on what’s really important in life; creating fun (and messy) lasting memories with my son.
After our finger painting extravaganza, I was amazed just how quickly Clorox® Regular-Bleach cleaned up our mess. Using a spray bottle with the recommended proportions (1/2 cup Clorox Bleach per 1 gallon of water), the paint wiped up flawlessly, leaving my son’s play mat squeaky clean! Not to mention, as a mother, I really appreciate the fact that Clorox® Regular-Bleach kills 99.9% of germs! Who knew that Clorox had so many handy uses besides making your laundry shine?

Ingredients:
- Water
- Cornstarch
- Food Coloring
Instructions:
1. Add cornstarch to water until paint consistency is reached (this amount will vary depending on how much finger paint you are making).
2. Divide finger paint into different containers and color with food coloring.
3. If desired apply soap flakes to finger paint for a beautiful silky finish.
4. Drop finger paint onto wax paper, parchment paper, or a play mat and watch your little one explore! Use this activity to talk about texture, colors, etc.
OH I know what me and the three year old is doing next week. Thanks for this
This is awesome! Being that I come from an artistic family, I am a huge proponent of all things creative.
What a great idea to make finger paint! My kids would have loved this when they were younger!
Thanks for sharing this! Often, my kids want to paint and I have no supplies!
That looks so easy to make and so much fun to play with! I love the colors of the paint too!
Ok that is just a brilliant idea for finger paint! I hate regular finger paint because it is far too messy. But this, I can definitely make this at home. And I love having clorox on hand to help clean up the stains. 🙂
This looks like so much fun! It’s always good to have Clorox on hand for the messes.
It’s great that you can let your kids have fun – especially when it will be easy to clean up. What a great idea!
What an easy idea for finger painting. If it makes a huge mess it will be easy to clean up too!
It’s nice when you can take simple stuff you have sitting around your house and make something so fun. Who doesn’t love to finger paint?
That finger paint looks great. I was afraid it might be too thin, but it looks like a really nice consistency to me.
This is such a great idea. I’m going to have to try this with my girls!
I need to make this for my 18 month old grandson. He loves mushing things up with his hands and smearing stuff on his high chair and our tables.
Oh what fun. I have always worried about clean up, as well, and realized that I was being too much and not allowing the fun to happen, LOL… now I just embrace the mess. HA! Thanks for sharing your recipe. So fun!
I agree that the cleanup is the worse. You could also use this paint in the tub or shower. Just get them in the bathing suits in the tub/shower and let them paint away. Then when they are done, it’s bathtime! If the food coloring stains the tub or grout, I bet Clorox and a little baking soda will clean everything up.
OH my kids would LOVE to paint in the tub! What a great suggestion!
Oh this looks like so much fun! My kids love chalk/playdough/paint/etc.
I think this is such a great idea. And you don’t have to worry about stains and disaster at the end of it all. Great!
That is so much fun! Messy play is the most fun play, and it’s a bonus when the cleanup is easy.
I’m going to remember this when my daughter is old enough for projects like this. I think it’s important to allow kids to be messy. I just HATE the cleanup!
Who knew it was so easy to make! My kids would love this! Well one of them would make a huge mess and the other would neatly paint ha ha.
This is a great idea. Now kids can be messy and creative, and we don’t have to worry about cleanup.
What a fun idea! I just know my boys would LOVE this.
