The Spice Lab offers over 180 different salts from around the globe.  The product line includes jarred sea salts and spices and many other salt accessories.

I love to cook, and my husband loves heat from peppers in his food.  So this was a really perfect fit.  I was excited to get started trying this product, so for breakfast I made fried potatoes and eggs.

I used about half to full teaspoon of The Spice Lab Habanero salt to season these potatoes with.  Added some chopped onions and cooked it all together until the potatoes were browned.  This was really tasty. The peppered salts worked to enhance and add spice all at the same time.  Just a nice heat.

I then used these salts to make a roasted veggie salsa recipe!

Fresh Roasted Veggie Salsa
Prep time

This salsa was a nice mix of roasted and fresh produce. With the habanero salts, it was a really nice mild heat. Just enough burn for us that don't really want to feel fire but like the heat.
Recipe type: Sides
Serves: Many
  • 6 large Tomatoes
  • 2 jalapeno peppers
  • 1 habanero pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • olive oil
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • 2 limes
  • ½ large onion
  • Spice Lab Habanero pepper salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  1. Roasted veggie, 4 large tomatoes seeded, 2 jalapeno's, 1 small habanero, 3 cloves garlic, 1 yellow bell pepper seeded, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle liberally with 1 Tablespoon of Spice Lab Habenero Pepper salt. Turn veggie's to skin side up, place in oven at 400 degrees till starting to blacken at the edges. While that is roasting...
  2. large tomatoes seeded and chopped, I clove fresh garlic grated, 1 bunch or as much as you like for flavor cilantro chopped. 2 limes zested and juiced, ¼ to ½ large sweet onion chopped Put all this together in a large bowl while waiting for the others to finish roasting. Sprinkle this fresh mixture with 1 tsp Spice Lab Habonero Pepper salt and 1 tsp. ground cumin. For a fresh mild salsa you could stop here and be very happy. Drain roasted veggies. I save the juice to use later in rice or to cook a spicy meat with. I hand chop the yellow bell pepper, I place the rest of the roasted veggie into a chopper and process. Then I add this mixture to the fresh ingredients and you have a finished Fresh roasted veggie Salsa.

I start by Liberally sprinkling these vegetables cut side up with 1 Tablespoon of The Spice Lab Habenero Pepper salt.  Then I turn them skin side up to roast at 400 degrees until they are slightly blackened at the edges. This is where you get that smoky flavor you are looking pics 016

Then I clean and chop all my fresh ingredients into uniformed sizes.

When my roasted vegetables are done, I drain off the juice and set it aside to cook my rice with which makes it full of flavor and heat, or I have also cooked my meat for taco’s with this juice.  It is not a throw away item…. very yummy.

Once you have all your fresh ingredients together as stated in the recipe, you can eat just that.  It is so good, with just a mild heat.  Or you can go for a little more heat and add all the roasted vegetables except for the jalapenos and Habanero, or you can go for the burner and add it all.

I also tried the other flavors of salt, Smoked Serrano pepper, Jalapeno pepper in: Guacamole’, enchilada sauce, when making hummus and on different types of meat.  These were all really great items, that worked well to bring the spice level up while adding salt to the food.

I am looking forward to trying the Szechuan Pepper the next time I make a stir fry.  I am sure it will be very pleasing.
