Sonoran Desert Getaway in Scottsdale Arizona

Sometimes mama just needs to run get away… you know, escape the little people that hold you hostage day in and day out. I’ve been itching for a getaway. In the 8 years we’ve been married, I’ve gone from pregnancy to nursing four little boys back-to-back without much of a break.

I was actually planning to sneak away for a night at a hotel all alone – just me and my laptop. Yup, I was totally planning to blog all night long. Hey, you can’t judge me for loving what I do!

I was thrilled with I received an invitation to stay at the newly renovated JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. A mini Sonoran Desert getaway? Sign me up! Oh, and I guess my husband can come too. So much for blogging.

The timing actually worked out beautifully, though. The night before our stay was my husband’s birthday so we used the overnight stay to celebrate him. He’s been nagging me to go play golf with him for over a year now. I keep turning him down. But who can turn down a birthday wish. So we went and played a round at the Ambiente golf course.

I’ll admit it was fun, though I don’t recommend playing in the middle of the day in the middle of the summer. Luckily we had some breeze. I totally consider my 5 strokes in a par 3 hole a major win, considering this was the first time playing anything beyond mini golf. My husband got his first ever on par! You should have seen the dance! I so wish I had my camera ready and rolling for that moment, it was priceless!

After our round of golf, we headed back to the resort and settled into our beautiful room. The rooms are really gorgeous with the wooden beams, but we immediately crawled into bed and took a nap. That’s what you’d do too, right? You finally get a break from kids and all you want to do is sleep. We are definitely parents.

When we finally rolled out of bed (we’re talking 5pm or so) it was time to eat! Of course, what’s a getaway without food? The Camelback Inn has a fantastic restaurant as part of the property called Rita’s Kitchen. The food was amazing! We ate there for both dinner and again for Sunday brunch.

I was blown away by the buffet! So many amazing choices. My husband was drooling over the cheese bar and delicacies. I wanted the carbs! Super soft donuts (I just had to grab a second one), yummy pecan crusted french toast, muffins and so many other yummy picks. I was stuffed after the first plate, but you can’t stop at one. Then out came the desserts. Dessert with brunch! These little treats were so amazing! Try not to notice that I already snitched the banana cream pie one before my hubby politely nudged me and reminded me of my duty — pictures first!

Western Town Scottsdale Arizona

At the end of our mini Sonoran Desert getaway, we snuck up to the replica western town to have a peek. It’s really cool looking. The hotel staff mentioned they do shows and activities seasonally up at the town and they also have bike rentals available to ride around the resort and take in all the scenery.

This resort really was unlike anywhere we’ve ever stayed before. It captures all the beauty of Arizona and the Sonoran Desert feel while still giving you a very modern, hip, and fun place to vacation. The live music was a treat we weren’t expecting and they’ve really built the resort around an outdoor atmosphere which Arizona is so perfect for.

For more information or to book your stay, visit the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa website.

I was invited on a complimentary press trip. A complimentary stay, meals, and round of golf were provided. All opinions are my own.

Looks like a great place to stay. Gotta love a good buffet! I had to laugh at your desire to sleep during a vaca without the kiddos. I can totally relate!

It's so sad, huh! Being out in the sun for four hours didn't help, of course. :)
