San Diego Zoo – Our Vacation Day 1!
We headed to San Diego on April 27th EARLY in the morning so we could be there to spend most of the day there. From Phoenix the drive is about 6 hours and we headed straight to Legoland.
Turned out that Legoland was closed that day so we redirected and decided to head closer to the our hotel and went to the San Diego Zoo. We were luckily, as we had Go San Diego passes so switching activities last minute didn’t phase us as we had all the information we needed to pick another site!
I LOVED the San Diego Zoo! It is an enormous and absolutely beautiful Zoo! I have been there once before but this time we saw Koala and Panda bears, which we hadn’t seen the previous time we had been to the zoo. By far, my favorite animal at the zoo was the Panda bears!
They were absolutely amazing! They would grab these whole huge stalks of Bamboo and chomp right down on them and peel them apart. It was so neat and the highlight of my whole trip actually! The koala bears were really cool too all curled up on the branch, asleep.
After the bears we headed over to the polar bear, but he wasn’t out at the time. The boys loved playing in the polar cave and sea lion hide-out play areas!
We saw a bunch of other great animals as well and then hoped home on the sky car back to the entrance as we were all getting tired and ready to relax! We headed off to the Manchester Grand Hyatt to check out the beautiful hotel we would be staying at.
 I haven’t been there in 15 or 20 years…I would love to go back!

I loved the Pandas too!! That’s funny! They were my highlight for Sure.. well that and the 2 week old giraffe of course! <3

I love the San Diego zoo – lots of hills. Will you be visiting Sea World? Sea World has an incredible Polar Bear exhibit – I live in So. Cal and we were in San Diego a little while back – we’ll be going back soon. The day we bought our Sea World tickets they offered yearly pass with the purchase of a 1 day ticket for free.. We got there early in the AM and watched the Flamingos march. So cool.
