Plan a Date Night at Home

This post brought to you by Breyers Gelato Indulgences . All opinions are 100% mine.
My husband, James, and I have super crazy schedules during the school year.  He often works long hours in the heat, and lately humidity. When I’m not running the kids around to their various activities, I’m rehearsing for my latest musical. Basically we cross paths in the mornings and evenings. James recently celebrated his birthday, and since our schedules wouldn’t permit a night on the town, we decided to plan a special date night at home.

I received samples and compensation for this post.  All opinions are my own.

When you plan at date night at home, you can go as simple or elaborate as you want.  In the end, it doesn’t matter what you chose to do, just that you got to spend the time together!  Here are a few fun date night at home ideas to help you make the most of your time together!

Cook Off – Grab some interesting ingredients and have a creative cooking contest (like Chopped or Iron Chef). Switch dishes and judge each other’s creations.  You may have something delicious or something simple like pizza, but you’ll sure have fun making it.

YouTube It – My husband and I recently upgraded to a smart TV. When my husband realized you could watch YouTube on it, his life changed. Grab a bucket of popcorn and watch YouTube videos together.  We like to watch scary videos of “ghost sightings” but you could literally spend hours getting lost in zany, funny or beautiful videos.

Game Night – Pull out the board games and play! Make up your own rules, play for prizes like a foot massage or a kid free night.

Nerf Gun Battle – Raid the kid’s toy box and grab the nerf guns. You have tons of places to hide around the house, and hubby will get to use the skills he acquired playing video games in real life.

Theme Night – Pick a theme and plan everything around it.  Have a beach night with a picnic, swim suit and a beach movie (Jaws?). We decided to do an Italian Night for our birthday date night at home. I made gnocchi (not authentic, but sure yummy!) and we watched Goodfellas, one of his favorites! The best part was wrapping up the night with gelato!

I decided to choose Breyers Gelato Indulgences because it’s just so different than any other gelato you can find at your local grocery store.  It’s available in 4 scrumptious flavors, each more decedent and mouth-watering than the other. On our date night we got to try a few.

First was my husband’s favorite, Breyers Gelato Indulgences Vanilla Caramel. The amazing caramel pairs perfectly with the creamy vanilla gelato, and the curls of caramel on top are so tasty and so pretty. My husband described it as “fluffy.” My favorite was the Triple Chocolate! Oh my goodness, not only is it beautiful, but the milk and dark chocolate gelatos are velvety smooth and don’t even mention the white chocolate sauce on top! Seriously chocolate heaven!  I also love eating the little chocolate curls one at a time, just because I can.
