Crayon Biscuits to make with Children

This is a wonderful way to use up all those broken crayons you have in your box.  The children get to work on their sorting, matching, small motor skills, then coloring and rubbings.  All good things to learn and lots of  fun to be had, while doing it.

First you have the children sort the broken crayons from the whole ones.

Then you encourage them to peel the paper off the broken pieces.  While they are doing this, I preheat my oven to 250 degrees.

After all the pieces are paper free, we place them either by color choice, or randomly into the bottom of our muffin tins.

Place the muffin tin with crayon pieces into the oven for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and let stand for about 10 minutes until cooled off.  I tried removing them at this point and they did not want to release.

I placed the muffin tin into the freezer for 5 minutes.  At that time, I turned the pan face down on the counter and gave a good pound on the bottom and the crayon biscuits popped right out.

These are now great for using when you do leave rubbings or if you have rubbing stencils like I have.  The pictures come out multi-colored and the children love them.

If you have a crayon rim left in the pan, use boiling water and it comes right out.  Have fun and enjoy your children.
