New Baby and My Organizational Tipping Point!

As many of you will recall, I was pregnant with my fourth child and due this past Halloween. My little one arrived a few days overdue and I’m excited to share that we have another boy, our 4th son! Having a newborn in the home has made the past few weeks tiring but really sweet as well. I especially love watching my youngest who is two years old interact with and love his baby brother so much.

With a new baby in the home and having a relatively small home at just 1600 square feet, I’m finding it is time to reassert my organizational efforts and create systems to keep the clutter at bay. My two year old recently moved up and out of the nursery to make room for his baby brother and moved into sharing a room with my four year old son. Together, they create the “perfect storm” in their room leaving a trail everywhere they go as their curious little bodies get in to everything.

I’m looking forward to getting organized before the new year and have a system in place to keep the chaos of “stuff” from taking over when new toys arrive this Christmas. My biggest problems I face are clothing, toys and bedding. For some reason, it seems as their bedding always ends up on the floor and it becomes a struggle every night to get them tucked into bed. Clothing is also a huge issue with full drawers that means clean clothes get thrown out as my little ones try to find the “perfect” outfit while dirty ones land on the floor as well. I’m never sure which clothes are clean and which are dirty. My boys also carry toys around from other rooms in our home and they always land on their bedroom floor. I have a few ideas in mind to tackle my challenges and my Brother P-Touch Labeler will help!

Organizing the Kids Room Action Plan

Brother P-Touch Labeler Organizing

Clothing: Change out sized clothing to make sure only the right sizes are in their drawers to solve their overstuffed drawers. Label all clothing buckets with sizes that can be clearly seen to make it easy to find the right bucket later. Create unique and fun laundry baskets for each boy labeled with their names. Setup a system where each boy put their dirty clothes into their own laundry basket to avoid the modge podge of laundry that has to be sorted every load and sent to 4 different rooms. Assign each of my boys a specific laundry day and have them bring me their basket in the morning and put away their clean and folded clothes that evening so their laundry basket is promptly returned to collect their dirty clothes.

Toys: Clear out old toys, games, books, etc that are no longer being used. Store them away in the garage to rotate the toys or for age appropriate use or donate them, depending on the items. Clearly label buckets of toys that are to be rotated with a name as well as an age description to make it easier to sort through the buckets later to pull out age appropriate toys as my little ones grow. Label our bookshelf for storing books and toys to help remind my children where things belong.

Bedding: Create a “Make Your Bed” chart to encourage the kids to keep their bedding ON their beds! Label a storage basket to contain extra, clean bedding so it can be easily found and changed as needed.

I’ll update you in a couple of week to let you see our progress! In the meantime, I hope you get motivated to get your own organizational projects underway! Check out the Brother P-Touch Labeler to see how it can help you overcome your own challenges.

  1. How precious congratulations on your little baby boy. My little on is 3 and I have a daughter that is 19. Its like having 2 only children. I’m going to go check out your organizational update, I’m terrible at it LOL.

  2. Congratulations on the newest little Angel. He’s precious. When my 7 were little it was insane to keep order but your labeling system is just what we did. And the bedding was another chore. We ended up with attaching the elastic corners to the sheets to hold onto the mattresses. It didn’t solve the problem but eased it somewhat. 馃檪 Good luck. 馃檪
