6 Back to School Classroom Essentials

While you’re busy filling your shopping carts and checking off the lists for your child’s back to school needs, consider picking up extras to help your child’s classroom, too. There are several classroom essentials that your child’s teach will likely request throughout the year to restock the class supplies. You can donate extras to the classroom at the beginning of the school year, or hang on to extras and wait for those request to inevitably roll in. These six things are sure to be at the top of your teacher’s “please send in” list.

I received compensation and samples for this post. All opinions are my own.

6 Back to School Classroom Essentials

Tissues – The #1 requested item, that is sure to run out as soon as cold season its in early fall, is tissues! Puffs are tested by dermatologists to be gentle on the skin, making them the perfect choice to add the classroom.

Hand Sanitizer – Keeping hands clean is an essential part of stopping the spread of common colds and other germs that pass from one child to the next. Washing hands isn’t always practical in the middle of the school day, so hand sanitizer can be a helpful tool for keeping hands clean throughout the day.

Dry Erase Markers – Your child’s teacher will spend a lot of time using a white board to help instruct the class. Everything from spelling lists to math facts and even fun holiday greetings might be shared! Pick up a pack of colorful dry erase markers to brighten up the classroom.

Disinfecting Wipes – Messes are bound to happen in the classroom from sticky snack time to spilled paints. The teacher will be very appreciative of disinfecting wipes that can knock out germs, clean up messes, and keep the classroom running effectively.

Sandwich Baggies – There are lots of occasions when the teacher will divide up supplies for a project and individual sized baggies are perfect for passing out the supplies to each student. They can also help in storing leftover supplies or snacks when needed.

Extra School Supply Basics – While supplies like crayons, lined paper, pencils, glue, erasers, and markers are on sale and cheap, stock up on these extras and donate them to the classroom. The teacher can never have enough of these basic supplies that seem to evaporate like water.

  1. Teachers often have to pay for these things out of their own pockets! It’s important to do what we can to support those who are teaching our kids!

  2. This year my back to school shopping was a little different. My Daughter moved into a dorm room for her first year at College. We had to stock up on a lot of things. Cleaning wipes were on the top of our list.

  3. It seems like the lists get longer and longer each year. I don’t remember having a box of tissues in my desk but I think it would be important to send them with you child now. I was lucky my Elementary school always had these items around for us to use if necessary. But I bet the PTA probably bought it all.

  4. Puffs is a wonderful brand. I love that they have Minions on them! Tissues are a definite must for school. Kids are always getting sick and needing a tissue. Stocking up on extra supplies is always a great idea too.

  5. Now is definitely the time to stock up on those extras that your kids teachers might request. With all of the back to school sales and rebates through apps that can be gotten, and then coupons, sometimes you can even end up getting these things for free.

  6. Disinfecting wipes were always on my list as a teacher! You can just never have enough of them around the classroom!

  7. I think for sure tissues and hand wipes. I don’t want to know how many germs are at schools LOL. Great reminder of what I need to buy!

  8. My sister said the essentials on her kids’ back to school lists were all of this AND then some. That’s kind of crazy for one kid to have to have 25 pencils.

  9. Oh my, are tissues ever a necessity. My kids already have the first week snots! Also love to take disinfecting wipes for the teacher to have on hand for the classroom.

  10. We get this exact list every year from my kids teachers. I always send in supplies when I can.

  11. I enjoy dip a lot also. Never gave much thought to all the things that could be dipped. This is quite a list.

  12. EXPO markers really are the best. The generic ones are a waste of money. I buy them every year for my girls.
