Early Reading Made Fun with Spectrum Readers Series Review

Sometimes, it can be a struggle to get kids interested and excited about reading and really be eager to pick up a book and read. When I stumbled across Carson-Dellosa Publishings new line of readers that aims to make reading exciting and educational I couldn’t wait to check them out! Their new Spectrum Readers Series includes three different levels with eight titles in each level for a total of 24 books. Each book features a really catchy title that grabs you from the start. Then, you open the book and find simple phrase that easily build about the child’s reading abilities and large dramatic photos that draw them in and make them eager to read and learn!

Spectrum Readers Level 1

The books are built around interesting topics with a fact-based approach that can help meet one of the common core requirements that seek to bring half of all elementary school reading to be nonfiction and informational books. Reading level 1 is geared towards children ages 3-6, level 2 for 5-7 and level 3 for ages 6-8. My oldest is 6 and could easily read through the level 1 readers which helped him to feel more confident in his reading abilities. Then, he started in on the level 2 readers and they were a bit more challenging with more text and harder words which gave him a challenge but one he was able to work through by sounding out the words and looking at the pictures and context.

Spectrum Readers Level 2

The level three readers are still a little bit hard for him to read completely on his own. He can read a lot of the text but then asks for help and we work through the words he doesn’t know yet together. This helps to build his vocabulary and teach him about concepts we haven’t had the chance to teach him about yet. These books are all 32 pages long which is long enough to keep him reading for 10-15 minutes but not too long that he gets bored reading. He usually makes it through a book or two until he’s ready to move onto another activity.

Spectrum Readers Level 3

We have really enjoyed checking out the Spectrum Readers Series. The books are unique and interesting and have done a great job at keeping my son interested and wanting to check out the books. I really love how after he reads one of the books he comes to tell me all about what he just learned and teach me new interesting facts, too! You can find the Spectrum Readers series as your favorite bookstore or through the Carson-Dellosa Publishing website.

I received a set of the Spectrum Readers series of books in exchange for this post. The opinions expressed above are my own. Any claims should be verified on the sponsor’s site.
