As a new mother, SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) is my worst nightmare. However, the risk of SIDS can be greatly reduced by following these simple guidelines:
SIDS PREVENTION Guidelines
1. Children under 1 year should be placed on their backs when sleeping. This will help your baby’s face avoid being smothered by their mattress.
2. Always lay your baby down on a firm surface (an approved mattress with a fitted sheet).
3. Don’t allow your infant to sleep with stuffed animals or toys in their crib; this increases the risk for suffocation.
4. Don’t put pillows or blankets in your baby’s crib; this also increases risk for suffocation.
5. Do not smoke during pregnancy. Smoking during pregnancy is shown to increase your baby’s risk for SIDS.
After I had my son, my doctor went over these guidelines with me to help protect my son from danger. However after learning that infants are not supposed to have blankets in their cribs, I worried that my son would get cold at night. However, I found a solution to my problem with Merino Kids Baby Sleep Sack. By using Merino Kids Baby Sleep Sack, I can keep my son warm at night while still following important SIDS guidelines.
