Caring for Color Treated Hair

Nothing beats a fresh new hair style and color. Every few months, I find myself getting an itch for a little change. Instead of chopping off my length, I try out different hair colors. Although dying my hair is fun and exciting, I find that the more I color my hair, the more damaged it becomes. Learn how to restore your damaged hair with these tips for taking care of color treated hair.

Tips for Taking Care of Color Treated Hair

Stay hydrated and eat healthy. It’s no secret that coloring your hair often leads to dry and brittle hair. In order to moisturize and help your hair grow, make sure you’re drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. Eating foods containing biotin and folic acid will also help your hair grow more quickly: leafy greens, nuts, avocados, etc.

Trim your hair often. Trimming away your split ends between coloring will help your hair grow quicker, thicker, and stay healthier.

Don’t wash your hair every day. Washing your hair every few days allows for your body’s natural oils to preserve and re-hydrate your hair. Not only is it healthier to wash your hair every few days, but your hair styles a lot easier. This also keeps the color fresher longer. If you’re afraid of greasy hair, invest in a good dry shampoo.

Use heat sparingly. The less you expose your hair to heat, the healthier it stays. Allow your hair to air dry and straighten/curl your hair less.

Use Madison Reed’s Root Touch Up. Instead of dying your hair frequently, use Madison Reed’s Root Touch Up.

Concealing your roots with Madison Reed’s Root Touch Up Powder disguises root regrowth between hair coloring application. Free of harsh chemicals, such as ammonia, PPD, and resorcinal, maintaining beautifully colored hair has never been easier or healthier.

I always love a good excuse to shop at Sephora; and Madison Reed’s Root Touch Up Powder is no exception. Browsing the many glamorous isles in Sephora, I quickly noticed 7 different root touch-up colors. Comparing the various colors to my hair care, I found the perfect shade to hide my roots that were just starting to grow out.

Taking my Madison Reed Root Touch Up home, I am amazed how easily and quickly it applies. It’s just like applying make-up to my hair. In less than 3 minutes, my roots are concealed making my hair color fresh.

I am also amazed at how well the powder stays in – it stays put until washing it in the shower. Plus, it doesn’t rub off on my pillow. Because of Madison Reed, I can now go longer without dying my hair. What a great way to save a little money and help preserve my color treated hair.
