Olympic Torch Cupcakes & Gold Medal!

The Olympics are just around the corner and if you are planning an Olympic watching party or just want to give the kids a little treat in honor of the opening ceremony here is a sweet and celebratory snack to go along with the theme.

These Olympic torch cupcakes are simple to make but they make a big impression with the kids especially. How fun will it be to nibble on these yummy edible torches while watching the ceremonies this year? I have also included a simple idea for a gold medal that all your little competitors are sure to shoot for.

Olympic Torch Cupcake

Ingredients:

Directions

Start with a boxed cake mix, or your own recipe for a homemade cake. Prepare the cake batter following those directions. Then, pour batter into your ice cream cones, filling them 2/3 of the way full.

Ice Cream Cones Batter Place the cone into a movie or cupcake pan to make them easier to get into and out of the oven. Bake your torches for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden and the cake is cooked through. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely.

Torch Frosting

While your cupcakes are cooling, add 3 drops of red and 2 drops of yellow food coloring into a small bowl with your frosting and stir until well combined. You can add more food coloring, if you want to adjust the shade of orange. Now, use your spatula to frost the tops of your cupcakes generously smoothing the frosting upwards and then licking your spatula outward to create the feeling and appearance of flames.

Simple Edible Gold Medal

Olympic Gold Medal for Kids

For a little bonus I bought a bag of the chocolate gold wrapped coins and a roll of red and white ribbon. I used a small dab of hot glue to attach the ribbon and the coin. Note: the hot glue does not stay hot long enough to melt the chocolate.
