Things I Wish I Knew Before Having a Baby
Before having my first baby, I had many preconceived notions pertaining to what my life would entail as a new mother. Despite my research and preparations to bring a new baby into this world, there were many surprises (both joyful and difficult) that caught me off-guard. Although motherhood has proven to be an extremely rewarding gift, there are many things I wish I had known before having a baby.
I received samples and compensation in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

1. Breastfeeding doesn’t come easy to everyone. In the beginning (at least in my experience) nursing can be painful and a stressful time for both mom and baby. Often times breastfeeding takes time and a lot of practice in order to make it a joyful experience for both parties. Don’t get discouraged – give things time.
2. Labor pains don’t end after you give birth. In fact, many women suffer from cramp like pains for weeks to months after giving birth.
3. You will experience exhaustion like never before. You’ll find yourself doing things like putting your keys in the fridge and parking in the wrong driveway.
4. It will be a while before you’re able to sit down and enjoy a meal from start to finish.
5. You’ll find yourself whistling tunes like “The Wheel On The Bus” even when you’re not in the presence of your kids.
6. You’ll find it hard to find another topic of conversation (other than your kids) while your on a date with your hubby.
7. You’ll experience a kind of love for your child that you never even knew existed or was missing from your life; this love continues to grow with each new addition to the family.
8. It’s impossible not to make funny faces when feeding your child baby food.
9. You’ll find yourself saying things like “Stop eating dog food!” and “You need to eat your chips before your doughnut.”
10. Bladder leakage is a common problem after giving birth. In fact, 1 in 4 women experience stress urinary incontinence. Thankfully, Finess provides a clean and easy way to treat temporary bladder leakage.
Whether experiencing bladder leakage due to childbirth or premenopausal symptoms, Finess allows women to completely prevent bladder leakage instead of just having it absorb into a pad. Your children are adorable! I wish someone told me, or at least warned me about this issue before I had my two children. I kind of had to figure it out on my own.
That will not be able to go to the bathroom alone for years!!!
I am glad I knew that most babies can sleep anywhere. I would just plunk my son down, and he would sleep (I know I was blessed). But it made it easy to take him anywhere.
That is really interesting. I have never seen it. I’m going to look into this more for myself.
I hadn’t heard of this product before. Having a baby changes everything about your body!
This is the first time I heard about this product. My mom suffers from light bladder leakage. I will share this to her.
The song one made me laugh. So true. I found myself singing the ABCs sometimes!
I wish i had known more about post partum depression before i had my kids. With my second i i knew what to expect so it was easier to adjust.
This looks like a great option for women with LBL. I wish i had known that not every baby takes to the breast easily. It was a struggle with my first child.
Those are great! I wish I had known a lot of these before having my first child as well!
These are definitely things you hear about but aren’t necessarily prepared for! Finess definitely sounds like a life-saver.
Yes to every single one of these. I wish someone had told me about cramping with my first. On top of a c-section I thought I was going to die from the pain.
YOu had me laughing at the Wheels on the Bus! I agree about the labor pains to! This is a product that would save time, money and the environment.
I wish I would have know that my stomach would never be flat again! I also wish I had known I’d get so many stretch marks.
I had no idea that cramps effected some women that long after birth. I guess I was lucky 馃檪
You forgot to add in the fact that after becoming a mom, you will find yourself watching cartoons on TV…and the kids are no where to be found and you are like “wait..WHY am I watching this???”
What a great list. They are all so spot on.
This sounds like a unique product for women suffering from LBL. It is great that companies are thinking about the needs of women!
I love your style of writing – way before the product was introduced, I was very entertained with your list! 馃檪 Not the most comfortable topic to discuss with my friends, but your article’s humor makes it more possible.
