Trifles are all the rage right now, and for good reason. They are really easy to put together and look fantastic when you go to present the treat! I’m going to share with you how to put together an easy Strawberry Shortcake Trifle you can serve at your next party or celebration!
Ingredients:
- Angel food cake or shortcake
- Strawberry Freezer jam
- Cool whip or homemade whipped topping
- Chocolate chips
You can make any part of this recipe from scratch, or just pick up the ingredients at the store and combine, it’s up to you. I used store bought cake and cool whip. I make big batches of strawberry freezer jam once or twice a year, so I always have that on hand. Keep in mind, you could also use fresh strawberries diced, but I wanted this to be as easy as scoop and go.
Cut up the angel food cake or shortcake into approximately 1/2″ cubes. Layer cake at the bottom of your jar or dish. Next, add strawberry freezer jam. Top with whipped topping. Repeat one more time, if desired. Two layers works perfectly in a pint sized mason jar. Finally, toss a few chocolate chips on top and you’re done!
This treat was a big hit in my home! It took me just a couple of minutes to make enough for all my family as a Family Home Evening treat. You can even get the kids involved. Since this recipe is truly so easy, have them help by cutting of a section of cake for their treat and let them rip and add the pieces to their dish. Then, let them scoop the freezer jam and whipped topping. Their favorite part, though, will be tossing on the chocolate chips at the end, and of course they get picked right off and eaten before anything else, too!
