A single wall in your home painted a different color used to be enough to create a focal point in your home. Now, with the days of pinterest, we’re getting bolder and trying new things. Slapping a family portrait up on my wall just wasn’t enough of a statement, for me. I wanted color and interest so I framed my family portrait with an easy DIY that brought in so much color and really makes our picture stand out!
I received a complimentary print and compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.
You’ll need:
- Your favorite family photo printed on your choice of material
- Paint
- Paint brush or small roller
- Painters tape
- Measuring tape
- Level
I started by measuring and taping off the area that would be my frame for my family picture. I measured our portrait size, and planned for a 3″ frame on all sides of the portrait.
Once my wall was taped, I just rolled away with a mini roller and allowed the paint to dry. Since I used a paint and primer in one, I only needed one coat, but you may need to allow time for the first coat to dry and to apply a second coat. It only took me about 15 minutes to tape and paint my square.
Next, you’ll line up your family portrait and measure for your mounting your portrait. I just needed to mark placement for two screws and then hang my portrait. The whole project to make an area in my home that really stands out and shows off our gorgeous family portrait took about 20 minutes!
I choose to have our picture printed on a wood print! Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous with the wood grain showing throughout the print? I love that it adds so much texture and interest to the picture! Plus, the picture is a total conversation piece. Everyone seems surprised when they walk past our picture and realize it’s actually printed on a piece of wood!
