Favorite Ways to Play Outside!

Here in Phoenix, we have great weather all through the fall, winter and spring so it’s impossible to NOT spend time outside when the weather is just so beautiful!!

We have loved the weather cooling down to a bearable temperature over the last few weeks and have found! September 24th will mark the Worldwide Day of Play to turn off the TV and play outside! With that in mind, here are some of my family’s favorite ways to play!

Our favorite thing to do together as a family is going hiking! My husband loves to look up trails and figure out which one would work really well for us with the three little boys. On occasion he’ll even plan the whole trip without telling any of us and completely surprise all!

He’ll load us up in the car and tell us we’re going to do “something fun” which of course is a dead giveaway to me what he has in the works, which is fine for me! It’s great to just get outdoors though on a nice hiking trail where we get the chance to talk, breathe fresh air, and just spend time together as a family!

Another family favorite when we have a full weekend available is to go camping! We like to pick spots that aren’t made for RV’s and every single time it blows me away how QUITE the world is when it’s just you and your family out in the woods!

I love that feeling of hearing a gentle stream or the birds or your kids laughing without so much commotion and busy life bustling on past you! Even though sleeping in a tent can be difficult with little ones, it sure does create a ton of unforgettable memories!

As our favorites are few and far between we most often spend our time outdoors in our backyard! We have an extended patio that is great for all their bikes and trikes!

They love to play outside and when the weather is in the beautiful 70’s they actually will spend more time outside then in! They love to play catch, ride their bikes, dig in the dirt, splash at their water table, kick around a soccer ball, scoop up rocks with their tractors, you name it!

While they enjoy our backyard, though, nothing compares to a special trip to the park! Their eyes always light up and they giggle and cheer as they get ready to go! They love to play on the slides and swing as well but our park also has a duck pond for feeding the ducks!

  1. I love the idea of the Worldwide Day of Play. But it's kind of sad they have to make a special day to get kids outside! When I was a kid all we did was play outside.
