A Hotel Checklist + Sleep Inn Salt Lake City Review

If you could take off on an adventure this summer, where would you go? I like my adventures to be budget friendly but still tons of fun. That means we look for places to visit within driving distance and find quality but affordable places to stay. This year we took a drive north to visit Salt Lake City for the 4th of July. I have friends and family in the area, so it is always a fun destination for us to travel.

I received a complimentary two-night stay at Sleep Inn. All opinions are my own.

When we start our search for a hotel, there are a few things we always look for. When traveling with kids, these few items quickly become non-negotiable when finding a place to stay:

Our Hotel Checklist:

  • Free parking
  • Free wi-fi
  • A mini fridge and microwave
  • Pool
  • Complimentary breakfast
  • Pack ‘n’ Play available
  • Laundry facilities

The Sleep Inn in Salt Lake City easily met everything on our hotel checklist with a rate under $100 a night! When you are able to save by not adding on additional expense for internet, parking, and even breakfast, your stay becomes an even better value. We always end up using the fridge for sure and often the microwave as well for snacks or other meals which saves us even more money when traveling.

Having laundry available on-site helps you to be prepared should a disaster strike, which is more of a ticking time bomb with kids than something unexpected.

The very first thing my boys ask for as soon as we checked-in to the hotel was when could we go to the pool! We headed over to the indoor pool at the partner hotel next store that offers access for both hotel chains and played for over an hour splashing and laughing, enjoying our time together. When night fell, it was time to head out to visit with friends and watch fireworks.

If you’re looking for a comfortable and accommodating place to stay while on a budget, look into Choice Hotels line of options including Sleep Inn and other hotels across the country.

What is on your own hotel checklist?

  1. What a nice room. I love having a fridge and microwave. Often times we go out to eat and I have left overs. I love to take them home and will eat them later or even for breakfast.

  2. Wifi and CLEAN… final answer LOL This isn’t too far from me either!

  3. A free continental breakfast is high up on my list. Free wifi is a close second!

  4. Location is my first consideration and then I look at the amenities of the hotel. I stayed at a Choice Hotels property about 2 weeks ago and it was fantastic!

  5. I like my hotel to have room service in case I get hungry and I love lots of pillows. I like a big tv and nice bathroom.

  6. My hotel check list is pretty much like most a pool, Free WiFi and free parking, when we traveled to Germany the last few weeks it was rough no WiFi (not free, very expensive) parking was an extra fee and most hotels did not have a pool.. BUT they did offer a free Breakfast buffet not making up for it, but every country is different. We spent one night at a Marriott and it was very expensive and was 1/3 of the size of rooms that I’m used to in the US my family of 5 needed 2 rooms and that was almost not enough..Crazy, I know..Happy to be back in the US with awesome hotels like Sleep-Inn

  7. My hotel checklist looks a lot like yours. Free wi-fi, free parking, and a pool is definitely necessary!

  8. As a mother, I really enjoy having laundry on-site at a hotel. At my daughter’s age, messes are a given, and it’s nice to have access to laundry so I can clean it up immediately.

  9. I’ve never stayed at any of the Choice Hotels, but I’ve heard that they’re very nice even though they aren’t very expensive. From what I’ve heard they’re a great combination of comfort and affordability.

  10. I love the Choice Hotels line. They’re not too pricey, but they don’t feel like economy hotels either. It’s nice to be able to rest easy in a nice room without an empty wallet!

  11. I’m a stickler for CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN when we go to a hotel. It’s also very important to have a comfortable bed; I’ve left early when the mattress hurt my back!

  12. Great list… not too many hotel offer pack-n-plays… that is just great. Thanks for sharing
