8 Fun Activities for a Boss Baby Movie Night

This post is sponsored by Dreamworks The Boss Baby. All opinions are my own.

There’s nothing quite as fun as a family movie night, but we like to take it one step further, when we can, and plan a few activities and snacks to go along with our viewing party. We’ve had all boys, so bringing home The Boss Baby is a film we are especially excited about! I can remember the transition to a new baby brother coming into the home with each of our new additions.

The Boss Baby shows us the struggles of adding a new family member to the mix, and how these two brothers overcame those early challenges to create a brotherly bond that won’t soon be broken. I know my boys are going to laugh like crazy as they watch the antics of The Boss Baby as he breaks all the rules of being a baby, and sometimes is brought right back to those same baby instincts. They’ll love watching the adventure as it unfolds.

You’ll also be able to catch an exclusive new mini adventure when you own your own copy of The Boss Baby, where the two boys are off on an adventure that includes battling pirates, a trip to outer space, into the land of dinos, and more! The adventure is narrated by Wizzy, the magical wizard from Tim’s alarm clock.

The Boss Baby was just released yesterday on Blu-ray and Digital HD. It’s a fun family movie to bring home and enjoy along with your own family viewing party activities, like the ones below, to go along with it.

8 fun and simple family activities the kids will love! All themed around a new baby, or The Boss Baby new movie for a fun family movie night and viewing party in one!

8 Fun The Boss Baby Activities

1. Make an Origami Dress Shirt

This is a really easy origami design to make, and the kids can customize the shirt and tie design. You can even sneak a secret message inside the shirt, if you want. Here’s how to make it:

Try this easy origami t-shirt design with step-by-step directions. So cute for a The Boss Baby themed party, as activities for kids, or for a completely customized Father's day card!

  • Start with a regular sheet of printer paper or a piece of colored construction paper.
  • Fold in half, making a tall and skinny rectangle.
  • Fold both sides in again, towards the center, creating an even skinnier rectangle.
  • Flip the paper over, so the open folded part is facing down to the table. Make a collar by folding down about a 1/2″. Flip the paper back over so that the open folded section is now facing up.
  • Fold the paper down one more time, using your collar width as a guide. Unfold this fold, you’ll use the line you just created as a guide for the next step.
  • Fold in both outer corners of the collar inward, lining up the points with the corner of the guide line and the center line of your paper.
  • Fold the bottom inside edges outward, creating a crease about 3″ up from the bottom edge that runs all the way to the outside corner. This will create your sleeves.
  • Fold the bottom edge up towards the top, tucking the bottom edge under the collar.

  • To draw a tie, untuck the top edge. Draw a V at the top, Then an upside down V down towards the bottom edge. Then finish it with one more v.
  • Tuck the shirt back into the collar, then decorate!

2. Taste Test Baby Food

This funny activity is great for “grossing out” your older kids! You can buy a couple of jars of actual baby food (we love bananas and pears) or stick to what you already have around the home.

Instant mashed potatoes, applesauce, oatmeal, cottage cheese, yogurt, and cooked and pureed veggies would all work great. The key is to remove them from their original packaging, and serve in small portion sizes to make them look just like baby food. Serve the sampling with baby spoons, if you have any!

3. Name that Lullaby

The Boss Baby “steals” the older brother’s special lullaby. There’s just something sweet and special about those sweet tunes we learned when we were so little. For this challenge, you’ll hum or sing the first few notes of some of your favorite family lullabies.

You can roll a 6-sided die to determine how many notes, or just sing along the first few and pause. If they need more help, sing a few more notes, starting again at the beginning of the tune, until they can guess the lullaby!

Here’s some of our Name That Lullaby songs:

  • Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
  • Rock-a-Bye Baby
  • Are You Sleeping
  • Hush, Little Baby
  • Brahms Lullaby

4. Decode the Memo

Make a top secret code using symbols that remind you of babies. Once you assign each letter a different symbol, then come up with a hidden message to be decoded!

You can start with our printable Decode the Memo Game here! Our secret memo shares a quote from The Boss Baby himself, saying: “You’ve got the right baby for this job.”

5. Give the Baby the Binky

In the movie, The Boss Baby, we learn that the binky transports him back to Baby Co. The binky is an iconic symbol of babies. You can create a fun twist on the classic ‘Pin the Tail on the Donkey’ with your own version of ‘Give the Baby the Binky’. Play following the same rules as the classic game, aiming to be the closest to get the binky into the baby’s mouth.

6. Try out Secret Handshakes

In The Boss Baby, Tim and his baby brother come up with a special handshake, to accommodate The Boss Baby’s tiny hands. You can practice their secret handshake, then come up with your own!

Boss Baby Secret Handshake

To recreate The Boss Baby handshake, one person will make a fist and hold it out in front of themselves. The other person will shake their hand by placing their thumb below their fist and their pointer finger above their fist. You’re ready to shake hands!

7. Dress the Baby Challenge

Tim tries to play the good big brother to get out of being grounded, and helps in any way he can. At one point, he attempts to dress The Boss Baby. Recreate this fun challenge with a baby doll and outfits using a stopwatch to see how long it takes each family member to dress the baby.

8. Create a Green Slime or Dough

At one point in The Boss Baby, Tim and Boss Baby try to escape their babysitter by faking that the baby is sick. The concoct a green “vomit” to spray all over the home. We recreated our own green dough, with just 3 household ingredients.

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup shampoo
  • Green food coloring

Mix together cornstarch and 1/4 cup shampoo. Keep stirring and mixing, slowly adding more shampoo, as necessary. Don’t bother messing up your measuring cup, just estimate.

You don’t want the dough to be too runny with too much shampoo, or it will be sticky. When it looks like it’s a little crumbly, start kneading the dough with your hands to make a soft, smooth dough.

That origami dress shirt just did me in, and I have no idea why! LOL! I'm easily amused these days. We loved Boss Baby when we watched it, and this is a fantastic party for adults even - yes even the baby food. I'm sure we could have a totally fun time playing feed the baby at a party like this!
