Washabelle: First Ever Washable Mattress for Kids!

I received samples of Washabelle twin mattresses in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I’m a mom of boys, and I’ve dealt with all the pee stories you can think of. Potty training, night training, of course those sick nights too. Then there are the older boys that are still having trouble some nights and wet the bed. It feels like an impossible (and expensive) task to keep their rooms pee-free!

Until I heard about the first ever washable mattress.

Mom’s, do you hear the angels singing?

To be able to wash, clean, and sanitize their very mattress – heavenly!

Because lets face it, the “waterproof” mattress pads don’t always work, and even if they were fool proof, kids rip them off their mattress! How frustrating is that!

Two of my boys are still in the stage to desperately need a washable mattress. I could easily argue that all kids need a washable mattress, but if I had to pick 2 – I knew exactly who my prime targets would be.

First, my 3 year old. The little defiant toddler that insist on wearing diapers still. It won’t last forever, sooner or later mama’s going to win and the diapers will say goodbye for good! Unlike my other boys, who were potty trained around 18-20 months, this stubborn child missed that window while we were moving cross-country and now seems to think he gets to have an opinion on the potty training matter.

Nevermind that fact that he can practically change his own diapers.

Then, there’s my 7 year old. The kids sleeps like a rock, there’s literally no waking him. That means, the bed wetting is bound to happen and it’s much, much worse than the toddlers mishaps. After trying to find the battle with just mattress pads (see above where I mention how terrible those are!!) we’ve reverted back to nighttime diapers to save us all the headache (and stink!)

But even with nighttime diapers, that have helped tremendously, there’s still bound to be some issues with nighttime bed wetting. Overly soaked diapers, a forgotten diaper now and again, and other issues can arise.

But now, there is an incredibly comfortable and top quality washable mattress for kids that can be washed right in your home washing machine! It’s completely brilliant!

A mattress you can wash? Incredibly comfortable, easy to wash at home, and competitively priced! Moms, you're going to LOVE this!! #parenting #moms #kids #bedwetting #mattress

How the Washabelle Mattress Works

The Washabelle mattress is made up of a series of layers that will allow you to launder the different layers in your home with a front loading or top loading washing machine without an agitator.

washabelle layers

The Washabelle layers include:

  • Zip top cover – easily detaches to wash
  • 2 layers of Washafoam – a comfy memory foam layer that can be washed!
  • Zip-off Breathable waterproof base protector
  • Foam base – this is the core of the mattress, and can’t be washed but is protected by the waterproof layer above it
  • Bottom cover – can be removed and washed!

So whether your kids take a marker to their mattress, spill a drink, wet the bed, or any other common damages you’ll be able to easily clean the different mattress layers affected and it will be like you have a brand new, clean and fresh, mattress each time.

My Experience Using the Washabelle Washable Mattress

I was immediately impressed with how comfortable the Washabelle mattress is. It feels just as comfortable as my older two boys foam mattresses. When I laid down to test out the mattress, I didn’t want to get up!

I thought perhaps it being a washable mattress would mean the plasticy, crinkly feeling of mattress protectors or a thin, flimsy and lightweight mattress. Neither were the case. This mattress has all the quality and comfort of it’s competitors with a feature that pushes it far above the competition.

It was so easy to unzip the top cover and haul downstairs the top cover and first Washafoam layer – the only two parts that were affected by the mishap. They were light, flexible, and easy to maneuver.

We have an extra large top loading washing machine, with a large family the capacity size was a big deal to us when we had to replace our washer and dryer a few years back. Putting the Washafoam layer into our washing machine was pretty easy, however with the foam rebounding I wasn’t sure if it would all wash properly. I went ahead and ran the load, eager to see if the entire mattress would be wet and washed when it came out.

It was surprisingly easy to both wash and dry the different layers. My dryer on the “sensing” option ended the dry cycle too soon, so I ran a second 20-minute timed dryer cycle and the Washafoam layer was completely dry and ready to be taken back up to my son’s bedroom.

Assembly was even easier! I just laid out the Washafoam layer, then the Zip top cover, and zipped it all back together. A fresh set of sheets and blankets and the bed was clean and ready for bedtime.

We’re all very happy with the Washabelle mattress. It is comfortable, easy to clean for everyday use and amazing for cleaning up after those accidental spills and potty mishaps. My 7 year old was so happy to upgrade from his “cheapest mattress you can possibly find” to an actual quality bed because I no longer had to worry about him running the bed!

You can try out Washabelle with a 101 night free trial! If you’re not completely happy with new mattress, you can return it for a full refund – they’ll even pick it up from your doorstep! There are no hidden costs, shipping fees, or restocking fees. Plus, your used mattress will be donated to mattress recycling group or a charity (of Washabelle’s choice) so you don’t have to feel bad if the mattress isn’t a great fit for your family. Don’t hesitate to give Washabelle a try, you’re going to love it!

This is a genius product! There were so many moments whenever my son was younger that I wanted to toss the mattress in the washing machine and of course, couldn't. Love this!
