Being a Video Monitor Mom

When my husband and I got married we had things planned a certain way. A time line in our mind of how things would work. I think that is pretty standard. For us the plan was to finish college and then have kids. I would stay at home with our babies and he would finish up his graduate work. I have a degree in elementary education, while I was finishing up my degree we started trying for our first baby.

I never dreamed I would have any problems getting pregnant. Does anyone ever think that is something they will struggle with? But six months later we were still not pregnant and my cycles were all over the place. I knew it might take longer than that to conceive, but I also knew something wasn’t right with my hormones/cycles. My doctor had us start tracking my ovulation. We started buying ovulation tests in addition to the pregnancy tests I was already taking each month. If you have ever been in a similar situation you know that these tests do not come cheap, financially or emotionally.

I received compensation and samples to facilitate this post, all opinions are my own.聽

While nothing could have saved me from the heartache filled two years it took us to finally get pregnant, Accumed could have saved me some money! Accumed offers a combo pack of 40 ovulation test strips and 20 pregnancy test strips for less than $20! That is a fraction of the cost you would pay at the drug store. All of their tests are 100% FDA approved and 99% accurate. I never thought these would be items I would want to buy in large amounts, but unfortunately for myself and many others, this is reality.

When my little guy did arrive, I was overwhelmed and paranoid. Just like every new mom I sat there staring in awe at this little boy and panicking, is he breathing, is he safe, does he have everything he needs? I wanted to do everything right for this little, perfect human. I had the hardest time when it came to finding a baby monitor and letting him be in his room on his own.

I came to terms with being a video baby monitor mom pretty quickly and just to really paint the full picture, that cute boy just turned four, has a sister who is two and a half, and I am 33 weeks pregnant, and all of my kids still have their own video monitor. Even though he is old enough to read, I love having the ability just to check in on him in the middle of the night. My husband rolls his eyes at me, but it helps this worried mom sleep more soundly.

We just got the Foscam FBM3502 Digital Video Baby Monitor for our new baby’s nursery and I am blown away at how far monitors have come. I have gone through several monitors in the last 4 years, I have used several brands, and I am impressed by everything this baby can do! Check out these features:

monitor

  • Auto-Tracking Pan/Tilt, Digital Zoom, “Video-Off”
  • 30% Enhanced Night Vision
  • Two-Way Audio
  • Remote with Integrated 3.5″ High Quality LCD
  • Auto-power off with VOX voice activation
  • Lullaby Feature, Temperature Sensor, Feeding Timer
  • Optional Alerts
  • Secure and Interference-Free 2.4 Ghz FHSS Technology
  • 3-4hr Rechargeable Battery, Long Transmit Range Up to 500ft (980ft clear line of sight)
  • Supports up to 4 Cameras

Did you see that last one? It can support 4 cameras, obviously I am not the only mom who likes to keep a close eye on all her kids. That means all my babes can be on one monitor! Hello happy, well rested, less stressed mama!

When it all boils down to it moms are asked to do a lot. It took so much struggle and heartache to get my babies here. I am so grateful to have them in my life each day and I want to do everything I can to make sure that they are safe. That is what all of us moms are doing, right? The best we can. Luckily, we have great companies like Accumed and Foscam that can help make our jobs as parents a little easier along our journey.聽You can follow Foscam and Accumed on Facebook here and here, and on Twitter here and here.

How is your journey as parent going? I would love to hear about it.

  13. We don’t have a monitor yet but we are working to get pregnant. It would definitely be something I would want to get for a peace of mind. I like that it has two-way audio. I could imagine using that to both determine the situation and to talk back (to the baby and/or room occupant).

  14. We use one but I love that this one has Lullaby Feature, Temperature Sensor & Feeding Timer

  15. When my kids were little they didn’t have video monitors but that would have been awesome! Now I have my first grandchild on the way and know everyone would feel so much better being able to see baby at all times!

    1. Yup, I love that too. The first few times we used it, it scared the pants off the kids, but now they just know that they can’t get away with shenanigans at bed time.

  16. I do have a monitor that I intend to use. My favorite feature is that I can check it out through an app in my smart phone, and that it is infrared, therefore I can keep an eye on the little one while asleep and he won’t even know I am keeping an eye on him. It wasn’t really intended for that, but since I do not have a baby monitor intended for that, that camera I have will do.

  17. I don’t have one yet that’s why I’m entering! I’m preggo with my first so I’m just learning about all these things 馃檪

  18. I’m so glad you finally got the chance to be a mother! That is something that every woman should get to experience if desired!

  19. I’m a total video monitor mom. I have a video monitor, and I watch that thing like a hawk. It’s partly because I’m checking on my baby, but it’s also because she’s just so darn cute!

  20. He is sooo cute!! I wish they had these neat monitors when I had my kids. Great way to keep an eye on the baby without having to run in and check on them constantly!

  21. I had a video monitor with my youngest because his bedroom is on the first floor of the house, but the rest of us were up on the second floor. It definitely gave me piece of mind.

  22. Look at that cute preggo belly! I can totally relate – I’m looking at my kid’s video monitor right now!

  23. I’d love to use a video monitor for my next baby. We’ve been trying to conceive and could probably benefit from the ovulation tracker products that you mentioned. I’m going to look into it.
