Being a Video Monitor Mom

When my husband and I got married we had things planned a certain way. A time line in our mind of how things would work. I think that is pretty standard. For us the plan was to finish college and then have kids. I would stay at home with our babies and he would finish up his graduate work. I have a degree in elementary education, while I was finishing up my degree we started trying for our first baby.

I never dreamed I would have any problems getting pregnant. Does anyone ever think that is something they will struggle with? But six months later we were still not pregnant and my cycles were all over the place. I knew it might take longer than that to conceive, but I also knew something wasn’t right with my hormones/cycles. My doctor had us start tracking my ovulation. We started buying ovulation tests in addition to the pregnancy tests I was already taking each month. If you have ever been in a similar situation you know that these tests do not come cheap, financially or emotionally.

I received compensation and samples to facilitate this post, all opinions are my own.

While nothing could have saved me from the heartache filled two years it took us to finally get pregnant, Accumed could have saved me some money! Accumed offers a combo pack of 40 ovulation test strips and 20 pregnancy test strips for less than $20! That is a fraction of the cost you would pay at the drug store. All of their tests are 100% FDA approved and 99% accurate. I never thought these would be items I would want to buy in large amounts, but unfortunately for myself and many others, this is reality.

When my little guy did arrive, I was overwhelmed and paranoid. Just like every new mom I sat there staring in awe at this little boy and panicking, is he breathing, is he safe, does he have everything he needs? I wanted to do everything right for this little, perfect human. I had the hardest time when it came to finding a baby monitor and letting him be in his room on his own.

I came to terms with being a video baby monitor mom pretty quickly and just to really paint the full picture, that cute boy just turned four, has a sister who is two and a half, and I am 33 weeks pregnant, and all of my kids still have their own video monitor. Even though he is old enough to read, I love having the ability just to check in on him in the middle of the night. My husband rolls his eyes at me, but it helps this worried mom sleep more soundly.

We just got the Foscam FBM3502 Digital Video Baby Monitor for our new baby’s nursery and I am blown away at how far monitors have come. I have gone through several monitors in the last 4 years, I have used several brands, and I am impressed by everything this baby can do! Check out these features:

monitor

  • Auto-Tracking Pan/Tilt, Digital Zoom, “Video-Off”
  • 30% Enhanced Night Vision
  • Two-Way Audio
  • Remote with Integrated 3.5″ High Quality LCD
  • Auto-power off with VOX voice activation
  • Lullaby Feature, Temperature Sensor, Feeding Timer
  • Optional Alerts
  • Secure and Interference-Free 2.4 Ghz FHSS Technology
  • 3-4hr Rechargeable Battery, Long Transmit Range Up to 500ft (980ft clear line of sight)
  • Supports up to 4 Cameras

Did you see that last one? It can support 4 cameras, obviously I am not the only mom who likes to keep a close eye on all her kids. That means all my babes can be on one monitor! Hello happy, well rested, less stressed mama!

When it all boils down to it moms are asked to do a lot. It took so much struggle and heartache to get my babies here. I am so grateful to have them in my life each day and I want to do everything I can to make sure that they are safe. That is what all of us moms are doing, right? The best we can. Luckily, we have great companies like Accumed and Foscam that can help make our jobs as parents a little easier along our journey. You can follow Foscam and Accumed on Facebook here and here, and on Twitter here and here.

How is your journey as parent going? I would love to hear about it.

We used to have a video monitor and used it all the time. We have a new baby on the way and are looking for a new one since the kids broke the old one.

We don't have a monitor yet as our baby isn't due until April. This looks like a good one though!

Hi, wow, I'm having my first grandchild, in April and she will be living with me. I could really use this. Thank you for offering it!

They really were not practical when I had little ones but now that I have grand kids I would encourage my family members to use them. I think its a must have item.

I do not use a video monitor at this time. When our little one is born I'll be looking for monitor with a camera and ideally 2 receivers.
