The Microdermabrasion Question
My 12 year old daughter asked me the other day when you stop getting acne. I told her to look at my skin. “Yikes,” she said. Growing up I always thought the worst would be behind me when I was an adult. No more acne, nice beautiful skin. Instead, I still get acne, but now I get to add wrinkles and uneven skin. I wish I had spent my younger years taking a bit better care of my skin. At least now I have tons of beauty treatments to help. My sister in law works for a dermatologist and she recently recommended microdermabrasion.
But what is microdermabrasion? Is it right for you?
What is microdermabrasion?
Professional microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-chemical, non-surgical method of skin resurfacing that usually requires an appointment in a doctors’ office or spa. Professionals use a special machine with a vacuum-like tube that simultaneously circulates crystals on the skin as it removes dead and damaged layer of skin cells to reveal healthier-looking skin below.
What does it treat?
Microdermabrasion can:
- Improve age spots and black heads.
- Improve hyperpigmentation (patches of darkened skin).
- Exfoliate your skin, resulting in a refreshed appearance.
- Lessen the appearance of stretch marks.
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
- Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores.
- Treat acne and the scars left by acne.
Microdermabrasion helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.
Where can you have it done?
You can book an appointment at a spa to have a treatment by an Esthetician, or at a Dermatologist. But, most recently, you can save yourself time and even money by getting an home microdermabrasion machine.
I received a Crystalift System in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
The Crystalift System uses professional-style technology , to exfoliate dead surface cells, allowing smoother, fresher skin to emerge – in one simple to use system. It’s easy, convenient and takes less than 10 minutes to give you softer, smoother, younger-looking skin for a fraction of the cost. The Crystalift System fits right on your bathroom counter-top, but it provides you with similar technology to the professionals. The Crystalift System comes with crystal capsules containing the same pure and natural micronized mineral crystals used by professionals. They are designed to disintegrate in water so they are safe and gentle, yet effective on your skin.
It took me 2 minutes to set up the Crystalift System. I was honestly a bit nervous, since my skin can sometimes be sensitive. After I washed my face to remove all the lovely dirt of the day (and sunscreen from the pool) I patted my face dry and turned the machine on. It makes a gentle humming, and has a knob to adjust the strength. As you use the Crystalift, you can see very fine crystals being left behind on your skin. It’s actually pretty helpful because you can tell exactly where you have already been. The wand was easy to use, and it was actually really gentle, it felt like a tiny little vacuum (which it really is). After I rinsed my face it felt so smooth, and it didn’t feel sensitive or bad at all. I’m really looking forward to using it every week and seeing my results.
The Crystalift System can be purchased here. Check out their Introductory Offer that gives you 30 days to try it out, for free (and if you’re not 100% satisfied with your radiant new glow, simply return Crystalift for a full refund (less s/h).
I’ve only used Mary Kay’s microdermabrasion and I absolutely loved it but I haven’t bought any in a long time. This sounds fabulous though! I’d like to give it a try. Do you have any special serum or cream you’re recommended to use after it?
I’ve had it but, never done it at home. I’d be too scared to do something wrong. This is cool.
I don’t have a kit like this, but I would totally use it if I did. Who doesn’t want soft, healthy skin?
I have this and just love it!
I have used Kits and loved them. A machine however would be amazing and truly helpful. I really like that you can control pressure I know doing a kit by hand can lead to scratching on my face. Not cool 🙁 Thanks for sharing.
This came at a great time. I’ve really been considering microdermabrasion.
I’ve never had microdermabrasion, but I would love to give it a try. Thanks for all the info on it, this is good food for thought! Love that there are ways to do it at home!
That looks like an awesome product. I’ll have to try that. These harsh summer months do my skin no justice.
Microderm abrasion can really do wonders! I’m always a little concerned about going too deep. :/
The older I get, the worse my complexion seems to get. I have thought about trying microdermabrasion. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I wanted to try that but afraid to. I really need to try it.
I’d love to try this out. I’ve heard great things about it but just haven’t done it yet. This is on my list, for sure.
How handy to do that at home. Years and years ago I had mine done at a dermatologist and it was so expensive. I wish I had this option back then!
How cool! I have heard so many good things about microdermabrasion but having to make an appointment has always put me off it.
I have heard of it, but didn’t really know what it was, so thanks for this.
I would love to try this, I am sure it would help whit my skin
I have a few microderm abrasion kits and really should actually use them to maintain my skin. So far, so good!
