Learning Activities with Blocks
Over here in Phoenix things are getting HOT! Because of these high temperatures, my toddler and I spend most of our days indoors finding creative ways to have fun. My son’s new found love: blocks! In fact, just the other day, sifting through the toy box, he kindly asked “blocks, please?” Looking for some creative ways to entertain your children this summer? Check out some of these learning activities with blocks.
I received Tegu Blocks in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
Learning Activities With Blocks

Counting: Place your blocks into various various piles. Practice counting how many blocks are in each pile.

Stacking: Have a contest to see who can build the tallest tower the quickest. This is my son’s all-time favorite activity! His favorite part is knocking down the towers after we build them!

Colors: Using flashcards, match blocks to various colors.
Paint: Paint with blocks! Use your blocks to make fun patterns and shapes with your paint. Although this project might get a little messy, your little one will LOVE it!
Spelling: Use blocks to practice spelling words. For smaller kids, use the blocks to form the letters of the alphabet.

Train: Use your blocks to make a train. Using tape, create a train track for your block train to drive on.
Shapes: Use flash cards to practice finding and naming shapes.
Measure: Measure your favorite objects with blocks; stack blocks on top of each other to match the height of your favorite object.

Space: Fill in various shapes with blocks. This is a great spacial activity.

Zoo: Build a block zoo for all of your child’s favorite animals
After seeing the unique blocks pictured above, I’m sure you’re all thinking, “those are some pretty awesome blocks!” Not only are these colorful Tegu Blocks eye candy, but they are the original magnetic blocks. That’s right, these handcrafted WOODEN blocks are also magnetic!

I would have LOVED such blocks as a child. Pretty sure my husband and I have just as much fun playing with these blocks as my son. Tegu blocks truly inspire the mind with endless creative possibilities. Ever since opening my son’s eyes to playing with Tegu Blocks, other blocks just don’t compare. Be sure to visit Tegu and start your summer fun today.

How cute!! I love these blocks, the colors and shapes look fun. Great for baby!
I’m a big fan of blocks too because they’re so open-ended. Kids can come up with more ways to use them than I ever thought possible!
Blocks are such great educational toys! I love them!
You are so right! There’s so much more you can do with blocks then just build!
Tegu blocks look like tons of fun. Nice tower!
Okay, I seriously MUST have those blocks! I’ve never seen any like those. Adorable and educational – must have! Thank you for sharing.
Great ideas! Looks like you’re both having a blast. I think the “build a zoo” idea is the one my kids will love most.
Great way to bond and have them learn!
I love these blocks! I am going to look into getting these for my toddler (who can pass them onto her baby sister!).
blocks are a great way to learn and i use them with the kids all the time. thanks.
My kids LOVE blocks, they are so versatile and there are so many ways kids can learn from playing with them/
I think that blocks are some of those things that can be used for almost everything. I mean, of course for motor skills, but also for other learning, like what you said above!
We still use blocks in my daughter’s therapy. It helps bring ideas to a physical aspect in her mind. We teach her dexterity and sorting and all kinds of other fun stuff.
These are awesome ideas! Blocks are an absolutely essential toys, but the Tegu ones look even better!
Sometimes the simplest toys are the best for learning!
Great ideas! My kids always loved stacking blocks… and then knocking each other’s creations over.
Looks like he is having a great time with them!
You have some very creative ideas for using your blocks. My Mom has always believed in having some basic toys available, not just the high tech, gotta-have-it thins month stuff. She is a firm believer in plain paper for art work, crayons, scissor and blocks. We had a huge box of blocks when I was growing up and they were forever being used.
Such a great idea!! What a great way to learn and have fun.
these block look like so good old fashioned fun. I am sure my little niece would love to have fun with these.
These are all great ideas for making block play more than just hand eye co-ordination. That’s important, but if you can throw letters, counting, and other avenues of learning into the mix, all the better.
My kids love blocks, and I love the colored blocks, great learning tool for kids.
Pretty neat – my kids love to play with blocks as well.
My boys really enjoyed playing with blocks when they were younger, too!
