Five Uses for Mayonnaise

When I was growing up, I would turn my nose up at anything that had mayonnaise on it. For some reason it just grossed me out. I married a mayo addict, so over the last 18 years that opinion has changed completely.  I find myself eating and using mayo all the time. Just the other day, my daughter requested a grilled cheese sandwich with…yup, mayo. She said it made the sandwich better.  Then, the other day, while watching the final seasons of The Office on Netflix, I noticed an episode where they used mayo to kill lice.  I had to find out if it was true.

I was provided samples and compensation in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

Five uses for Mayo

Mayo has tons of different uses, check out these 5 uses for mayo!

5 Uses for Mayonnaise

  • Hair Treatment:  Massage in let sit for several minutes, shampoo out. Leaves hair shiny
  • Lice treatment:  Cheaper and more natural, massage mayonnaise into hair, cover with a shower cap and let sit overnight.  Rinse out in the morning. You may need to repeat the process, but at least your hair will be gorgeous after!
  • Mani:  Place fingernails in a bowl of mayo for 5 minutes, wash with warm water. Leaves cuticles and nails soft.
  • Stubborn sticker: Remove labels or stickers. Cover with layer of mayo, let sit for a couple minutes wipe off.
  • Crayon Marks: Coat crayon marks with mayonnaise. Let sit for up to 15 minutes then wipe off with a soft cloth. Yes, from the wall!

Of course, the best use for mayo is always eating it. By far, my favorite use for mayonnaise is making potato salad. Check out my favorite potato salad recipe. I have a new mayo for making my potato salad now…Hampton Creek Just Mayo!

Five uses for Mayo

Hampton Creek Just Mayo is a tastier, more affordable and healthier version of the mayo you love. Just Mayo leaves out all the bad stuff (including cholesterol and sugar) and leaves you with an incredible tasting mayonnaise. Just Mayo just doesn’t come in the regular mayo flavor! You can indulge in a creamy garlic mayo, a kicking chipotle mayo and even a spicy sriracha mayo! With flavors like these, the recipe possibilities are endless. Check out some recipes here (they even have a chocolate cake recipe!)

Hampton Creek Just Mayo gives you designer flavors at an affordable price. So affordable, you can find Just Mayo at Dollar Tree. Bringing healthy foods at affordable prices is one of the goals of Hampton Creek, as we have all seen what some companies charge for healthier options. Hampton Creek is working with companies around the world to bring better options to everyone. Right now, Hampton Creek has their Just Mayo line as well as a line of cookies, Just Cookies.

CEO and founder Josh Tetrick said, “We live in a time where the unhealthy choice is dirt cheap and convenient. And the healthy choice is pricey and inconvenient. When my Dad walks the grocery aisles to buy mayo or chocolate-chip cookies or eggs, the inputs that make them possible often come from bizarrely unhealthy places. Our goal has always been to build a company that brings healthier and affordable food to everyone, everywhere. Solving a problem means actually solving the problem for most people – not just the folks that can afford to pay $5.99 for organic eggs. We’re thrilled to have such world-class investors joining forces with us.”

My family had the opportunity to try out 4 flavors of Hampton Creek Just Mayo. Let me tell you, I am completely sold! Just Mayo is creamy and delicious.  I love the hint of lemon juice. My husband, the biggest mayo fan of the them all, who only let’s me buy a certain brand was really impressed. It even got the “surprised eyebrow” raise that my husband gives to things he finds delicious. My absolute favorite is the Just Mayo Sriracha. It takes your sandwich to a higher level. I think I am going to make this Asian Cole Slaw with the Just Mayo Sriracha and bring it to my next potluck.

I am not a fan of mayo, but I have used it on my hair before and it does work great, but it is hard to wash out.

I am not a fan of mayo except for the reasons you listed above and some recipes call for it. I have to admit a fondness for the 'other kind' (miracle whip) I dont ind it on some things but normally try and avoid it I dont know why!

I used to always treat my hair with mayo, and it really helped me with dry hair. I did not know that it can be a good treatment for lice. That is better than having to use chemicals to get rid of these bugs.
