3 Tips for Last-Minute Holiday Shopping

I am a Sears Blogger. All opinions are my own.

I love the thrill and the fun of shopping for gifts for the holiday. I love hearing my kids wishlists and then browsing and picking out something I know they will love. Of course, it’s not all fun and exciting all the time, shopping for holiday gifts at times is stressful and difficult too. Like shopping for the last minute gift for the co-worker you forgot you needed to pick-up before your work Christmas party.

last minute holiday shopping tips

Huffington post put out a fun article on the 11 Secrets of a Holiday Super Shoppers. I can relate to so many of the “secrets” from their list, but especially #6 to price-match and price-adjust. I am always comparing prices before I checkout. Plus, I can be a bit obsessive about watching sales prices to see if they drop after I’ve shopped – so this one nails me right on the head. It may be a bit silly, but finding the very best prices makes me feel like I’ve scored and was able to gift the most for each recipient with my budget in mind. Keep in mind, you can continue to price match after the holidays, depending on your purchase date. So keep watching those sales if you had to shop for something last minute without the time to compare and get the very best prices.

My own best tip for holiday shopping is to shop throughout the year. My sister-in-law teases me about my “gift closet”, but I do literally have one. Whenever I find a really great sale or promotion on something that I know would make a great gift for one of my loved ones or one of the common times I need gifts (ie baby showers) I don’t hesitate to pick it out. It eases my December budget by picking up gifts throughout the year and saves me when I have to grab that last minute gift I forgot about, I don’t have to tackle the in-store lines!

They have really awesome services that can ease the stress (and ridiculously long checkout lines) during those last minute shopping trips. You can shop online and then pick-up your items with free store pick-up — guaranteed in five minutes for the fastest way to get your online purchases! This is perfect when you don’t have time to wait for your items to ship. You can even pick up items from Sears and Kmart at either of the stores, for more variety and choices without having to visit both stores.

  1. These are great ideas, I am glad this year I did not wait. I usually do and end up with crappy gifts. This year though? I am all in with awesome gifts. Each kid doesn’t have many, well the youngest probably has the most but the older three have a few “big” type gifts that are going to be a HIT. I cannot wait! I even have all but two presents wrapped!!

  2. I’m all for the curb side service that Sears offers. I like to avoid the crowd and do most of my shopping online. Great infographic.

  5. I never had last minute shopped before. I am one of those crazy ppl that is done with all my Christmas shopping by July. I just don’t want to stress during the holidays.

  6. we have a gift closet too. people think i’m crazy but with 2 girls, having a ton of american girl stuff on hand for gifts? it’s awesome. when i find great stuff at a great price i absolutely stock up.

  7. Wow! I have heard of curbside food pick up but never curbside shopping. I love it. That is so great for people who are working and trying to get their shopping done or those with small kids. My elderly mother would love that.

  8. My tips (as a mother) for last minute shopping is simple….shop online LOL. The only reason I say that is because my youngest is in the “I’m running away…hahahaha!” stage and I can’t take her anywhere.

  9. I love the diagram “Then and now” what a great way to demonstrate who much eaiser shopping can be! I am such a bargain shopper and I love Kmart/Sears!

  10. Every year I say I’m going to shop throughout the year so I don’t get hit with the huge financial burden in December, but I never do it. I need to have a gift closet this year and be sure to do that!!

  11. I love that in vehicle pick up. It is a GOD-send for those of us with little ones who can’t get out to stand in line. LOVE IT!

  12. Actually I usually shop throughout the year for Christmas! And it really does make the holiday shopping a lot easier. I don’t have to fight the crowds,it’s not a lot of money spending all at once and I usually get better deals too.

  13. I love that they have pick up. I always joke with my husband that the Post Office would be making way more money if they offered a drive thru.

  14. My advice? Have a budget, and have a plan on what you plan on spending your money on. Just going to the stores with no plan you end up buying more than you can afford.

  15. Lol…this was so cute! Great tips. My tip is not waiting for the last minute, or simply getting everything done via online shopping.
