Secrets of Road Trip Snacking Success

Summer = road trips! I love taking road trips, even with getting on the road with kids along adds a layer of challenge to the trip. I learned early in my parenting days that the key to success on a road trip is having lots of road trip snacks ready to go and easy to access.

I received samples and compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

Individual Portions – The most important tip I can give is to portion out your snacks in small, individual sized baggies ready to give out at a moments notice. Nothing creates a meltdown quiet as quickly as a hungry child (or husband, for that matter). Being able to toss a bag back to the back seat when they start to fuss will keep everyone in the car much happier.

Within Reach – Keep snacks close by, within easy reach, of the passenger adult. Or, if your children are old enough, you can divy up a set of snacks in a paper lunchbag. Then, your kids can dip into their snacks whenever they’re feeling bored and have a place to stash any trash, too.

Variety is Key – Start your trip with at least 5 different options. I’m always surprised when we get on the road and their favorite snack is now completely rejected. Especially when you have a lot of miles ahead of you, variety will keep everyone’s interest when they’re seeking a snack.

Healthy Choices – It’s easy to reach for junk food to pack on your trip, but the healthier the choice you select, the better everyone in the car will feel. It’s okay to pick out one sweet treat to pack long, but also consider healthy options like grapes, nuts, raisins, string cheese, or similar snacks.

“Special” Snacks – I like to pick out something new before our trip. Trying a completely new snack makes it exciting for the kids. Be careful when selecting something new by carefully picking something different than routine, but not something so foreign your kids will reject it at first glace.

Fisher has introduced a fun new way to bring nuts along on your next road trip with their latest product, Nut Exactly Snack Bites! It’s a fresh new spin to nuts that will make them feel like a treat, even when they’re a healthy option that will keep tummies from being upset. Nuts are perfect as a snack on the road as they are loaded with protein and help give a feeling of being full.

We had a chance to try these new snack bites, and all my nut lovers loved them! My personal favorite was their Peanut Popcorn variety. I love peanuts, peanut butter, and popcorn – so it was the perfect combo for me! Each snack bite is just 15 calories and they have no artificial flavors or colors and no high fructose corn syrup!
