Pregnancy Checklist: Your 2nd Trimester

This post is sponsored by P&G but all opinions are my own.

Congratulations, you’ve made it through your first trimester! Hopefully your morning sickness is letting up a little and you have a bit more energy. The second trimester of pregnancy is a personal favorite of mine – food finally sounds appetizing again, your belly starts to grow a little (but you’re not huge yet), and you get to find out the gender of your baby. So many exciting things to look forward to!

First, we’re going to talk about the importance of getting your baby registry ready, and then move on to your week-by-week checklist: What to do in Your 2nd Trimester. You can also use the printable below to check off these items as they are completed; this makes accomplishing all of your pregnancy tasks SO much less stressful.

Getting Your Baby Registry Ready

Now that you’re in your second trimester, people are going to start asking you what you want/need for your baby. You know what that means? It’s time to start your baby registry! Your second trimester is the perfect time to start adding items to your list. This gives you plenty of time to add items and adjust your registry as necessary! Thankfully, Target’s baby registry  shopping for your new little bundle of joy extremely easy and hassle free.

Upon signing up for the Target Baby Registry, you’ll receive an awesome welcome packet which includes $50 worth of samples and coupons. Use these coupons and samples as a guide to choosing some of your first items.

Target reminds you to not forget baby essentials. As a first time mom you might not realize how many diapers your little one is going to go through! Get ready by adding a bunch of boxes to get ready, it really is the perfect gift.

Your future self will love you when you aren’t making that late night run to the store! Another tool that is super useful is Target’s baby registry checklist. This helps you make sure you have all of the essentials (diapers, stroller, car seat, etc.) covered. Looking for these items on your checklist, you’ll also find awesome advice and top picks from fellow parents.

There are so many cool things that really set Target’s baby registry apart. One of my favorite parts is that you can completely customize your baby registry. When registering at Target, you can upload a photo, leave a little message for your guests, and even create a personalized shortlink. Plus, the savings are incredible! And when you’re trying to save money for a baby, every little penny counts!

Using the Target Baby Registry, you’re able to price match, add items you want from other websites, and even group gift. Only having to register at one store saves some serious time! You’re even eligible to receive a 15% discount upon registry completion, or 20% if you’re a Target REDcard member. Let’s be honest, Target really thinks of everything! Now that you all get how much I absolutely adore the Target Baby Registry, let’s move on to your weekly checklist items!

What to do in your 2nd Trimester

Week 13: Go shopping for maternity clothes.

Chances are, if your morning sickness has started to wear off, your bump will start to grow. Start looking for clothes that will keep you comfortable as your belly continues to grow. I typically prefer finding loose, flowing shirts and dresses that I can wear all throughout my pregnancy.

Week 14: Sign up for a childbirth class.

You’re going to want to start looking around for childbirth class options. Although you may not start these until later in your pregnancy, book one in advance before spots fill up.

Week 15: Join a prenatal workout/yoga class.

By this week you’ll (hopefully) have a tad bit more energy. With a little added energy, start attending prenatal workout/yoga classes. This is a great way to have a healthy pregnancy and to meet mommy friends!

Week 16: Start talking baby names.

Get out a pen and notebook and start discussing baby names with your spouse. This allows plenty of time for you to add names/cross them off your list.

Week 17: Schedule a dentist appointment.

With all the hormonal changes in your body experiences, there’s a chance that your teeth may suffer a little – especially if you experienced morning sickness. 17 weeks is a great time to visit the dentist and make sure your teeth are healthy and clean.

Week 18: Start considering Pediatricians.

Start asking your friends and family who they recommend using for your baby’s pediatrician. Set up some office visits and find a pediatrician you trust.

Week 19: Ultrasound for gender.

Many doctor’s offices perform the gender ultrasound anywhere from 16-20 weeks. 19 weeks is a great time to find out the gender of your baby so you can celebrate at your half way mark.

Week 20: Celebrate your halfway mark!

20 weeks of pregnancy deserves to be celebrated. Go for a night out on the town, have a gender reveal party, pamper yourself, etc. You’ve made it half way!

Week 21: Start your baby registry.

As I mentioned earlier, people are going to start asking gift ideas for your baby.  Start your Target Baby Registry list now so people can begin gift shopping and you can continue to add items as needed throughout your pregnancy.

Week 22: Go on a Babymoon!

Be sure to schedule your babymoon while you’re still allowed to fly/drive long distances. Babymoons are a great way for you and your spouse to connect and share some time together before baby arrives.

Week 23: Look into maternity leave benefits and make a plan.

Sit down with your boss and figure out what kind of benefits you receive during maternity leave. Figure out a budget/how much time you’ll be able to take off of work.

Week 24: Make a plan for helpers to come stay.

Talk with your friends and family and figure out who will be able to help you for a few weeks after baby arrives. Make a schedule so everyone can plan in advance; after-all, you don’t want to be doubled up or not have any helpers during the first few days of your baby’s life.

Week 25: Decide on a nursery theme.

Now that you know the gender of your baby, you can start planning a nursery. Decide what kind of a theme you want to incorporate and be sure to add the items you need to your registry!

Week 26: Time for the glucose screening.

Not many women like this part of pregnancy, but it must be done. Around 26 weeks, you’ll want to call and schedule your glucose screening with your doctor. This test allows the doctor to make sure you don’t have gestational diabetes.

Week 27: Finish up the registry.

By now you’ll have a pretty good idea of items you need/want for your baby. Hopefully you’ve continued to add items to your registry as you’ve thought about them. Because your shower is only a few weeks away, you’ll want to make sure your Target Baby Registry is ready to go! Remember to review Target’s checklist to make sure you have all of your baby essentials covered.

It's funny how quickly you forget it all. I have no longer stored what happens in each trimester or what someone should be doing. This will be a great resource for sharing with my expecting mama friends.
